Senior Accountant – Real Estate & Property Accounting

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our accounting team. This role offers the opportunity to support a growing portfolio of real estate assets while contributing to both property-level and corporate accounting functions.
The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in accounting and financial reporting, along with experience working in a real estate, property management, or multi-entity environment. This position partners closely with operations, asset management, and finance teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and support business objectives.

Full-time, Monday - Friday, with flexibility as business needs require.
Property Accounting & Financial Reporting:
- Manage accounting activities for a portfolio of real estate properties.
- Prepare and record journal entries, including accruals, depreciation, amortization, and other recurring transactions.
- Monitor mortgage, escrow, tax, and insurance-related activity and ensure accurate accounting treatment.
- Reconcile bank accounts and balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis.
- Review accounts receivable, prepaid expenses, security deposits, and other property-related accounts.
- Analyze property financial results and investigate variances or unusual activity.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
- Prepare and distribute monthly financial reporting packages for internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with property management and operations teams to ensure financial information is complete and accurate.
REIT & Corporate Accounting Support
- Assist with accounting and reporting activities for REIT and corporate entities.
- Prepare and review financial data for consolidated reporting purposes.
- Support cash management functions, including wires, ACH transactions, and account monitoring.
- Perform reconciliations for corporate bank accounts and other balance sheet accounts.
- Participate in monthly close activities and ensure reporting deadlines are met.
- Assist with audit requests and provide supporting documentation as needed.
Financial Analysis & Process Improvement
- Analyze financial data and identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
- Partner with asset management and operational teams to provide financial insight and support decision-making.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and special financial projects.
- Recommend and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls.
- Participate in accounting system implementations, upgrades, and testing initiatives.
- Support compliance with tax filings, business licenses, and other regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- REIT, or multi-entity accounting environments.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 4+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Knowledge of U.S. GAAP and accounting best practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred
- CPA designation or Master's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Experience in real estate property management.
- Familiarity with property accounting software such as Yardi or similar ERP systems.
- Experience with financial consolidations and property-level reporting.
