Working with the City of Golden’s Forestry & Open Space division under the direction of the Open Space Technician, the candidate will work outdoors in a natural resource setting to preserve and enhance natural areas. They will perform routine tasks in open space areas and will provide support to all aspects of parks maintenance. Work hours will be Tuesday-Friday, 32 hours a week.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but not limited to the following:

  • Perform maintenance in Open Space, Right of Way, & any City of Golden Property
  • Identify & manage weed species
  • Trail maintenance
  • Tree care
  • Perform landscaping duties, including but not limited to mowing, trimming, edging, etc.
  • Maintain equipment
  • Work with volunteer groups/projects
  • Other job duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

None.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education diploma (GED) preferred. Experience in landscape or outdoor laboring is desired. Interest in natural resource management preferred.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information and communicate with others.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.


OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must enjoy working outdoors and be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED

Backpack sprayers, UTV’s, hand tools, mowers, string trimmers, landscape blowers, edgers, small tractors, trucks, trailers, power tools, small engines, janitorial equipment, computers, tablets, smart phones, etc.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to dig; rake; hammer; saw; drill; shovel; push; pull; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee frequently is required to communicate. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stand. The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. Working conditions are primarily outside in municipal parks and native foothills setting, sometimes in remote locations or cemetery setting. Use of protective equipment as required.
