Seasonal Administrative Office Intern

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Department of Parks and Recreation, a nationally recognized and award-winning parks department, is seeking an Administrative Office Intern with our Southern Recreation and Leisure Services Division.

Internship Overview
This internship is designed to provide a comprehensive, hands-on administrative experience within a dynamic public service environment. The intern will gain exposure to division-wide operations, including program management, budgeting, data analysis, and strategic planning. A key component of the internship is the completion of a capstone project that contributes to the division’s operational effectiveness and long-term goals.

Program Objectives
  • Provide real-world administrative experience in public service operations
  • Develop advanced skills in data analysis, reporting, research, and professional communication
  • Expose intern to recreation division budgeting, program evaluation, and strategic planning processes
  • Support division-wide initiatives through a major administrative capstone project
  • Strengthen project management and executive presentation skills

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage an assigned administrative capstone project from concept through completion
  • Analyze participation, financial, and operational data to identify trends and insights
  • Attend division leadership meetings and document key discussions and action items
  • Develop professional written materials, reports, and executive summaries
  • Support budgeting, reporting, and strategic planning initiatives
  • Maintain organized digital project files and documentation
  • Collaborate with Facility Directors, Program Managers, and administrative staff across the division

  • Participation in leadership and operational meetings
  • Hands-on data analysis and reporting assignments
  • Exposure to budgeting and financial tracking processes

Preferred Academic Background

Schedule

Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (flexible schedule may be available by agreement)
