Perform activities necessary to ensure that the facility is in compliance with all corporate, local, state and federal H&S regulations. Interface with regulatory agencies and divisional personnel to direct health and safety efforts. Interact with outside vendors as necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Implementation of the Annual Health & Safety Action Plan as well as Corporate mandated plans and objectives such as SMAT, TOS, NOS, Permit to Work Program, and various compliance programs.
Facilitate the monthly Central EH&S meetings, Contractor Health & Safety orientation and Visitor Health & Safety Orientation.
Enforces general safety policies and procedures to be followed by plant personnel in compliance with corporate, local, state and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
Assist in identification, analysis and control of occupational hazards requiring the application of professional engineering knowledge, skill and abilities.
Assist in inspection of facility to detect existing or potential accidents and health hazards and recommends corrective or preventive measures where appropriate.
Assist in the research, planning, organizing, and conducting of safety programs, and seminars.
Writes material for new safety programs; reviews, evaluates, and modifies existing and proposed programs; recommends appropriate changes.
Assist managers, supervisors & operators with problems & answer any questions they may have concerning health and safety matters.
Assists with preparing and administering various safety programs.
Prepares and distributes safety program aids such as instructional material, handouts, evaluation forms, and visual aids; sets up audiovisual equipment and makes presentations when necessary.
Schedules and administers Forklift Safety Program and schedules one onsite safety shoe trucks each year for employees to purchase safety shoes.
Support adherence to EH&S Systems by hourly workforce, lead by example.
Report all EH&S incidents – Injuries/Recordables, Near Misses, First Aid, Environmental and Property/Equipment Damage.
Participates in Incident & Near Miss Investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions.
Will participate in the development, understanding and review of all position JSA’s.
Document Controller for all OHSAS documents maintained in the Powerway document control system.
Maintain and update Corrective & Preventive Action, Objectives & Program and Performance Measurement & Monitoring Logs.
Collect Near Miss/SMAT and Forklift SMAT cards out of drop boxes throughout the plant.
Enter all Near Miss/SMAT and Forklift SMAT cards information into a plant tracking spreadsheet.
KNOWLEDGE & COMPETENCIES (SKILLS & ABILITIES):
Associate’s degree in industrial safety/health/hygiene and/or a minimum of (2-3) years of professional plant level experience in the planning, development, and implementation of Health & Safety management systems and compliance programs.
Professional safety certifications are highly desirable.
Significant problem-solving situations involve investigation and resolution of employee complaints, root cause analysis of incidents, and recommendations for improvement.
Must have excellent organizational and cross functional skills, as well as oral and written communication skills.
High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.
Must be self-motivated, and be able to make independent, informed and prioritized decisions.
Must be able to work in both individual and team industrial work settings with minimal supervision.
Maintaining strict confidentiality in all matters is paramount to this position due to the nature of employee information exposure.
