Job Description

The Refrigeration Technician installs, maintains, and repairs commercial refrigeration systems at retail locations, primarily grocery stores, within a defined local territory. Working from a company-provided service van, this role operates largely independently, using advanced internal AI tools on a tablet to guide diagnostics and repairs. The position follows a first-shift schedule and involves overtime, especially during peak seasons, to ensure critical refrigeration equipment operates reliably and efficiently.

This role will offer $80K - $120K depending on experience, but factoring 10 hours minimum of OT/week, highest level technicians can earn as high as $180K yearly. You will need a MA Refrigeration License for this position and a car.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to commercial retail locations, primarily grocery stores, within an assigned county-based territory to perform refrigeration service work.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair commercial refrigeration equipment, ensuring systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with relevant standards.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on refrigeration and HVAC-related equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Use a company-provided iPad or tablet with internal AI guidance tools to walk through repair procedures and complete service tasks accurately.
  • Document all work performed, including diagnostics, repairs, parts used, and time spent, using company-approved digital tools and workflows.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with store personnel regarding work being performed, equipment status, and any required follow-up.
  • Manage and maintain the company-provided service van, tools, and inventory in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Follow all safety procedures and best practices while working on refrigeration systems, including lockout/tagout and handling of refrigerants and related materials as applicable.
  • Respond to service calls during the first shift and work additional hours as needed during busy seasons to support customer needs.
  • Coordinate daily routes and schedules within the assigned 30–40 mile service radius to complete work efficiently and on time.
  • Collaborate with internal support teams and leverage AI-based tools, including upcoming wearable technology, to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Stay current with company training programs, new technologies, and updated procedures related to commercial refrigeration service.

Essential Skills

  • Licensed HVAC Refrigeration Technician or equivalent refrigeration technician license, or currently in the final 2–4 months of an approved HVAC refrigeration apprenticeship program.
  • Hands-on experience working with refrigeration equipment, preferably in commercial or industrial environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for diagnosing and resolving issues with refrigeration and HVAC systems.
  • Ability to perform installation, service, and maintenance on refrigeration equipment in the field.
  • Comfort working independently in a mobile service role with minimal direct supervision.
  • Willingness and ability to work significant overtime, including an average of approximately 10 hours of overtime per week in non-peak seasons and 20 or more hours of overtime per week during busy summer and winter seasons.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to safely operate and care for a company-provided service van.
  • Ability to use tablets, smartphones, and digital tools to receive assignments, access AI-based guidance, and document work.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with customers and internal teams.
  • Ability to work first shift with a flexible start time around 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Commercial retail refrigeration experience, especially in grocery or similar environments, is highly preferred.
  • Experience with refrigeration in bio/life sciences, industrial facilities, or similar technical environments is beneficial.
  • Experience as a service or maintenance technician working on mechanical or HVAC systems is an advantage.
  • Comfort working in a field-based role that may involve varying site conditions and travel within a defined territory.
  • Openness to learning and using advanced AI tools, including wearable devices, to support diagnostics and repairs.
  • Commitment to ongoing training and professional development in refrigeration and HVAC technologies.

The schedule is first shift, with a flexible start time around 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., and includes regular overtime, particularly during peak summer and winter seasons. Work is performed from a company-provided service van that can be taken home each day, equipped with a company iPad or tablet, iPhone, and supported by a gas card. The environment involves working around active retail operations, refrigeration equipment, and mechanical rooms, requiring adherence to safety protocols and professional appearance appropriate for customer-facing settings. The company is investing in AI Meta Glasses and other advanced technologies to support technicians on-site, creating a modern, technology-enabled work environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $83200.00 - $135200.00/yr.
