The Recycling Specialist II plays a key role in the university’s self-managed waste and recycling program, operating as part of a small-city style campus services team. In this role, you collect, transport, and process waste, recycling, and compost materials across campus, ensuring a clean, safe, and environmentally responsible environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Responsibilities
You will join a major Atlanta institution that is deeply rooted in the local community and widely recognized as a stable, reputable, and desirable place to work. This opportunity is intended to lead to permanent placement for strong performers, offering a long-term career path rather than a short-term assignment. As a permanent employee, you can access a comprehensive benefits package, including up to 16 paid holidays, up to 11 paid vacation days in the first year with increases over time, and a competitive retirement program with up to a 9% 403(b) match. Benefits are designed to be affordable, with low-cost options for individuals and families, additional retirement and savings plans, and tuition reimbursement to support your professional and personal growth. The organization emphasizes work-life balance, long-term stability, and a culture that values the contributions of its employees.
Work Environment
This role is based on the Atlanta campus and involves working primarily outdoors across university grounds. Most tasks take place in public and campus service areas; there is no work in private living areas, including dorm rooms. You will spend the majority of your shift on your feet, walking between locations, lifting and carrying materials, and operating vehicles such as trucks, vans, golf carts, and small carts. The work is physically demanding and requires comfort working in various weather conditions. Multiple shifts are available, including a weekday first shift (Monday–Friday, approximately 6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m.), a weekday second shift (Monday–Friday, approximately 2:00 p.m.–10:30 p.m.), and a weekend shift (Thursday–Sunday, approximately 8:00 a.m.–6:30 p.m.). The environment is operational, hands-on, and team-oriented, with a focus on safety, cleanliness, and reliable service to the campus community.
