Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, supervise, and actively participate in the planning and delivery of diverse recreation programs, events, and specialized initiatives while ensuring compliance with County policies and standards.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of recreation facilities and programs, including event management, partnerships, contracts, public safety coordination, and risk management.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and mentor recreation staff; conduct interviews, onboard new hires, coordinate staff training, and foster a positive, safety-focused team environment.
  • Assess community needs and interests through feedback, surveys, and outreach, and develop programs and events that reflect those interests.
  • Serve as a public ambassador for County recreation programs by presenting to community groups, civic organizations, and residents.
  • Manage administrative responsibilities such as reporting, strategic planning support, committee participation, and accreditation compliance.
  • Oversee facility operations including maintenance coordination, renovations, capital improvement projects, rental agreements, insurance requirements, and emergency management planning.
  • Develop and launch new recreation programs, events, and services that expand access and enhance community engagement.
  • Create and deliver staff training and leadership development opportunities for employees and partner organizations.
  • Support marketing and outreach efforts by developing program schedules, promotional materials, website content, and social media communications.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by responding to inquiries, resolving concerns, and building positive relationships with the public.

Education and Experience:
An equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Seven (7) years of experience in a supervisory and/or leadership role.
    1. Recreation experience preferred.
Licenses and/or Certificates:
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of departmental policies, plans, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, plans, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other job-related computer programs and software applications.
  • Knowledge of operations and practices of local government.
  • Knowledge of the objectives and principles in the administration of public events and recreation programs.
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of indoor and outdoor events and recreational activities, and knowledge of facilities and equipment needed for an operation or program.
  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing, to include public speaking.
  • Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
  • Skill in the use of office equipment such as a computer, multi-line telephone system, scanner, fax machine, and copier.
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and direct the varied activities involved in a well-rounded event and recreation program.
  • Ability to understand accounting procedures and methods, and to manage programs in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Ability to make recommendations and to use resourcefulness and tact in solving new problems.
  • Ability to ascertain priorities and meet deadlines and objectives.
  • Ability to plan, organize, direct, and appraise the work of assigned personnel.
  • Ability to develop effective proposals.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to provide internal/external guidance and customer assistance via all forms of communication.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting department rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to abide by contractual guidelines and procedures related to legal agreements.
  • Ability to create positive and professional relations with contractual partners.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret departmental functions, procedures and policies.
  • Ability to use computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.
  • Ability to author reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, service providers, other employees, and the general public.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions. Frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds; occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
