ROLE SUMMARY:

Goodmark Nurseries is seeking an experienced, driven Account Manager with a strong background in the wholesale nursery industry and direct experience working with rewholesale nursery yards. This role is built for someone who understands plant material, thrives in relationship-driven sales, and knows how the rewholesale market operates. This is not an entry-level sales position. We are looking for someone who already understands wholesale nursery operations, availability management, substitutions, logistics, and the fast-paced demands of rewholesale customers. The primary focus of this position is selling trees, shrubs, and plant material to rewholesale nursery yards while building long-term partnerships and growing market share. MAJOR OBJECTIVES:

The Account Manager is responsible for growing and managing sales within the rewholesale nursery market. The role centers around developing strong relationships with rewholesale yards, identifying opportunities to increase plant material sales, and becoming a trusted partner to customers throughout the buying process.This position plays a critical role in driving revenue growth by servicing existing accounts, prospecting new rewholesale customers, and maximizing opportunities through product knowledge, substitutions, and strategic sales efforts.

Candidates should possess strong horticultural knowledge, plant identification skills, and previous experience within the wholesale nursery industry. Direct experience selling to or working with rewholesale nursery yards is strongly preferred.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Sales & Account Management

  • Meet or exceed monthly and annual sales and profit goals established with Sales Management.
  • Develop, maintain, and grow relationships with rewholesale nursery customers.
  • Prospect and cold call new rewholesale yards and wholesale buyers to generate new business opportunities.
  • Visit customer locations regularly to strengthen relationships and identify additional sales opportunities.
  • Follow up on quotes, bids, and open opportunities to secure business.
  • Upsell available inventory and provide strategic substitutions to maximize customer success and market share.
  • Track open orders and coordinate customer pickups and deliveries.

Customer Support & Industry Expertise

  • Handle inbound customer calls, pricing requests, and order entry accurately and efficiently.
  • Assist customers with availability, product recommendations, and sourcing solutions.
  • Coordinate and assist with customer tagging appointments.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction through proactive communication and follow-through.
  • Conduct nursery tours for customers and showcase available inventory and capabilities.

Business Development & Industry Presence

  • Assist with sales promotions, tradeshow specials, and marketing initiatives targeted toward wholesale and rewholesale customers.
  • Represent the company at industry trade shows and networking events.
  • Build brand awareness while strengthening existing customer relationships and developing new ones.
  • Work closely with management on sales strategies, inventory opportunities, and market trends.

Operational & Team Support

  • Help maximize profitability by ensuring freight and delivery charges are properly assessed.
  • Assist with collection support and account resolution when needed.
  • Participate in weekly sales meetings and collaborative planning efforts.


WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Previous wholesale nursery industry experience required.
  • Direct experience working with or selling to rewholesale nursery yards strongly preferred.
  • Strong horticultural knowledge and plant identification skills.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain long-term customer relationships.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced seasonal environment.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and results-driven.
  • Comfortable traveling to customer locations and industry events as needed.
  • Proficiency with computers, order entry systems, and sales software.


REQUISITE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITY:

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • The ability to solve problems and offer valid solutions to a variety of issues and implement these solutions in a positive cooperative manner.
  • The ability to coordinate and complete numerous activities in a limited time span.
  • The ability to visit customers and make positive suggestions, assist staff in problem solving, conduct tours and display a degree of expertise commensurate with the activity at hand.
  • The capacity to visit offsite customers or work sites when needed.


PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1-3 year’s previous sales experience.
  • Horticultural and plant identification knowledge required
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred.
  • Must be proficient in computer use.
