Job Title: Quoting / Estimating Specialist

Job Description

The Quoting / Estimating Specialist plays a key role in increasing quoting capacity, accuracy, and win rate for structural steel and fabricated metal projects. This position combines technical estimating expertise with a sales-oriented mindset, working closely with customers, vendors, and internal teams to prepare competitive, precise quotes and to continuously improve pricing, tracking, and pursuit of opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and timely quotes for structural steel, fabricated components, and assemblies.
  • Perform detailed material and labor takeoffs and interpret blueprints, bid packages, and drawings to identify scope, materials, and labor requirements.
  • Collaborate directly with customers and general contractors to clarify project requirements, align scope, and position bids competitively.
  • Develop and maintain standardized estimating tools and pricing templates to improve speed, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key accounts by providing fast and accurate turnaround on quotes and change orders.
  • Work closely with engineering, purchasing, and production teams to validate estimating assumptions and ensure manufacturability of proposed solutions.
  • Analyze historical data and job performance to refine pricing models and improve estimating accuracy over time.
  • Follow up on submitted quotes, gather feedback from customers, and report on bid hit rates and overall competitiveness.
  • Assist in proposal preparation, including detailed scope breakdowns, alternates, exclusions, and clarifications.
  • Support the implementation and optimization of quoting and estimating automation tools, including ERP or other digital integrations.
  • Use strong Excel and digital takeoff software skills to streamline estimating workflows and maintain accurate records.
  • Manage multiple bids simultaneously while maintaining high standards of accuracy, responsiveness, and organization.

Essential Skills

  • 1–3 years of experience in structural or miscellaneous steel fabrication estimating.
  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven ability to interpret structural and architectural drawings and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of fabrication processes, including shop routing, welding, machining, and finishing.
  • Familiarity with weld symbols and common steel industry standards, drawings, and terminology.
  • General experience working with structural or fabricated steel in environments such as construction or commercial construction.
  • Experience with ERP and estimating systems such as Genius ERP, FabTrol, or similar platforms.
  • Strong Excel skills and proficiency with digital takeoff software.
  • Comfort communicating directly with customers, engineers, and general contractors in a professional and solutions-focused manner.
  • High level of organization with the ability to handle multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Results-driven approach with a clear understanding of the importance of both accuracy and responsiveness in estimating.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with steel fabrication, including budgeting, data entry, and use of fabrication equipment.
  • Background in drafting or design related to structural or fabricated steel projects.
  • Experience working with ERP systems in a construction, commercial construction, or project management context.
  • Ability to contribute to the development and refinement of standardized estimating tools and pricing templates.
  • Comfort working in a rapidly growing company environment with a stable management team that values longevity.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with customers, vendors, and internal stakeholders.

Work Environment

This is a full-time, on-site role with typical hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The position operates in a professional office and fabrication-oriented environment that leverages ERP and digital tools such as Genius ERP, FabTrol, and digital takeoff software to support estimating activities. Team members collaborate closely across engineering, purchasing, production, and sales functions within a rapidly growing organization. The management team is stable and values long-term relationships and longevity, creating a supportive and growth-oriented workplace.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grove City, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.47 - $45.68/hr.
