Job Title: Quality Control Technician

Job Description

The Quality Control Technician ensures that food-grade oil and dry goods products meet strict quality and safety standards by overseeing labeling, monitoring production processes, and performing routine laboratory tests. This role combines office-based documentation and label creation, hands-on quality checks on the production floor, and analytical testing in a lab environment within a fast-paced manufacturing facility.

Responsibilities

  • Check and verify production records to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Spot check product labels to confirm correct information, format, and placement.
  • Create and prepare labels for oil products in accordance with established specifications and regulations.
  • Monitor the flow of product through the production process and identify any irregularities or issues.
  • Take product samples from the production line and perform PV (Peroxide Value) and OSI (Oxidative Stability Index) testing in the laboratory.
  • Conduct pH and density testing on products as required and document results accurately.
  • Oversee the production floor from a quality perspective, performing frequent quality checks on products and processes.
  • Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Follow established quality control procedures and promptly report any deviations or potential quality concerns.
  • Use proper personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times and follow all safety and food-grade hygiene guidelines.
  • Engage in frequent moving, standing, lifting, and other active movements required to support production and quality activities.
  • Maintain a high level of honesty and accountability, promptly admitting and reporting any mistakes to prevent product issues or recalls.
  • Collaborate with production and lab team members to resolve quality issues and support continuous improvement.
  • Accurately record test data, inspection findings, and quality checks in logs or systems as required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous food and beverage manufacturing experience is preferred.
  • Prior quality laboratory experience is preferred.
  • An associate degree in biotechnology, biology, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Comfort working with labeling systems and documentation in an office setting.
  • Willingness to learn and take on additional responsibilities to grow into lead roles.
  • Interest in career advancement within a company that promotes from within for those who demonstrate strong work ethic, attendance, and competency.

Work Environment

This position follows a four-day work week on second shift, typically Monday through Thursday from 2:30 PM to 1:00 AM. Approximately 60% of the time is spent in an office setting working with labels and documentation, 30% on the production floor overseeing products and performing quality checks, and 10% in the lab conducting PV, OSI, pH, and density testing. The facility is a climate-controlled, food-grade manufacturing environment producing vegetable oil and dried good products, where cleanliness, accuracy, and honesty are critical to preventing product recalls.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Boone, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr.
