Position Overview
We are looking for a driven, knowledgeable, and detail-oriented Purchasing Agent to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring a broad inventory of plants — including native species, tropicals, and flowering varieties from local growers and vendors. You will play a critical role in keeping our supply chain strong, our inventory competitive, and our customers satisfied.
Key Responsibilities
- Source and purchase native, tropical, and flowering plants from a network of domestic and international growers and suppliers
- Develop and maintain strong vendor relationships to ensure consistent product availability and competitive pricing
- Monitor market trends, seasonal availability, and pricing fluctuations to make informed buying decisions
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, and delivery terms with growers and wholesalers
- Coordinate with sales and logistics teams to align purchasing with customer demand and shipping schedules
- Manage purchase orders, track shipments, and resolve any supply or quality issues in a timely manner
- Evaluate new vendors and plant varieties to expand and diversify our product offerings
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing history, and supplier performance
- Assist in forecasting inventory needs based on customer orders and market demand
- Communicate effectively with international clients and suppliers, navigating cultural and logistical differences
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or buying — preferably in horticulture, agriculture, or a related field
- Strong knowledge of plant varieties including natives, tropicals, and flowering plants
- Experience working with international suppliers or customers is a strong plus
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple orders and deadlines simultaneously
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or inventory/purchasing software
- Ability to work in a fast-moving, deadline-driven environment
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required
