This role offers the opportunity to work in a dedicated pump repair and service shop on the day shift, where you will independently inspect, repair, and assemble a wide range of industrial pumps. You will perform detailed disassemble, clean, and inspect (DCI) procedures, diagnose mechanical issues, and document conditions to support accurate repair work scopes. The position requires strong hands-on mechanical skills with rotating equipment and the ability to work with minimal supervision on routine tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Perform DCI (disassemble, clean, and inspect) procedures on various pumps, including horizontal multi-stage pumps, single-stage pumps, overhung pumps, between-bearing pumps, API pumps, and vertical turbine pumps.
  • Diagnose faults and mechanical issues in pumps and related rotating equipment, determining the appropriate repair actions.
  • Document “as found” and “as built” conditions with clear photographs, dimensional measurements, and detailed disposition of components for all assigned jobs.
  • Utilize precision measuring tools, including micrometers, bore gauges, veneer calipers, and dial indicators, to verify tolerances and ensure accurate fits.
  • Perform shaft alignments using laser alignment systems to ensure proper installation and operation of rotating equipment.
  • Balance impellers to improve performance and reduce vibration when required.
  • Assemble and reassemble pumps and related rotating equipment following mechanical drawings, specifications, and best practices.
  • Troubleshoot and repair pump systems used in municipal applications, ensuring reliable operation.
  • Disassemble pumps and components safely and efficiently to support inspection and repair processes.
  • Use manual lathes to perform threading operations on components when needed.
  • Work with minimal supervision, completing routine work without instructions and escalating only non-routine issues as necessary.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area within the shop environment.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet quality standards and delivery timelines.
  • Accurately record measurement data and repair details to support quality control and future reference.

Essential Skills

  • Municipality pump experience, including service and repair of pumps used in municipal applications.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a pump mechanic working on API pumps, horizontal multistage pumps, overhung pumps, between-bearing pumps, single-stage pumps, and/or vertical turbine pumps.
  • Proven experience performing DCI procedures, including disassembling, cleaning, and inspecting pumps to develop repair work scopes with pictures, dimensional data, and dispositioning of all components for assigned jobs.
  • Strong hands-on experience with pump assembly, troubleshooting, repair, and rotating equipment.
  • Ability to disassemble and reassemble complex pump systems accurately and efficiently.
  • Proficiency using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, bore gauges, veneer calipers, and dial indicators.
  • Experience performing shaft alignment using laser alignment systems.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and complete routine tasks without detailed instructions.
  • Solid mechanical aptitude and understanding of industrial pump operation and components.
  • Capability to read and interpret mechanical information and apply it to repair and assembly tasks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience balancing impellers to reduce vibration and optimize pump performance.
  • Threading experience on a manual lathe for machining and repair of pump components.
  • Background working with turbines, compressors, or mechanical assemblies.
  • Familiarity with reading and working from blueprints and technical documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail when documenting measurements, conditions, and repair steps.
  • Commitment to safe work practices in a shop environment.
