Prototype Assembly Technician

Summary:

  • We are looking for a Prototype Assembly Technician specializing in optical system assembly and custom tool operation. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in opto-mechanical and electrical assembly techniques (soldering, lamination, machining) and has a good attention to organization and cleanliness. The ideal candidate should be extremely motivated and able to work independently and with ambiguity. Experience in optical, mechanical and electrical testing is a plus.


Responsibilities:

  • Lamination and processing of optical assemblies for prototypes
  • Hands on active alignment of optical modules used in AR devices
  • Careful hand assembly work and part processing
  • Rework of prototypes and components, both mechanically and electrically
  • Operating custom calibration and assembly equipment
  • Writing documentation and reports relating to assembly practices and opto-mechanical test data


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Mechanical background and aptitude
  • 5+ years of experience in a related technical field
  • BS in ME, optics or related technical field
  • Experience in R&D lab for product development
  • Rapid prototyping (multi-disciplinary collection of skills)
  • Laser safety experience
  • Calibration experience (camera-based sensors)
  • Experience authoring SOPs for assembly and test


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with clean room procedures and equipment
  • Optical metrology experience
  • Prior work in AR/VR or optical consumer products


Must-Have Skills:

  • Read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings and mechanical models
  • Clear and concise documentation of assembly and test procedures and reports
  • Familiarity with safely operating lasers (up to Class 3B/3R)


Nice-to-have Skills:

  • NX
  • Vendor interactions - explore new sources of tools, processes, and materials
  • Python, C++
