A Day in the Life of:

As a member of our team, you will serve as the primary responsible party for day-to-day operations of Grounds Maintenance Operations at Defense Supply Center Richmond. PURPOSE:

Provides the Agency with complete and professional oversight of the Defense Supply Center Richmond, Grounds Maintenance contract.

DESCRIPTION:

Full time employment for individual who serves as the primary responsible party for day-to-day operations of Grounds Maintenance Operations at Defense Supply Center Richmond.

Schedule: Monday thru Friday; 7AM - 3PM

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and implement work schedules to provide timely completion of tasks with high quality results and standard cost. Promptly notifies the Director of Operations of any changes or exceptions.
  • Monitors operational budget to ensure targets for revenue and profit are met. Maintains control of expenses and makes adjustments as needed.
  • Supervision of work force to ensure compliance with proper methods, the Performance Work Statement, and agency standards.
  • Works closely with Crew Leaders and the Director of Operations to monitor and track trends and unusual situations and makes adjustments as needed. Uses quality assurance software to monitor performance and efficiency.
  • Requisition and purchase of supplies, materials, and equipment. (Must have management approval for purchases over $3,000.) Tracks usage of supplies, materials, and equipment and maintains accurate inventories.
  • Responsible for staff development. Identifies the types of training needed and provides training in a variety of formats.
  • Completes all assignments related to program objectives. Provides excellent customer service.
  • Employee Performance Reviews – reviews staff performance and compensation promptly when due.
  • Continuously reviews manpower requirements and advises the Director when there is a need to recruit additional personnel.
  • Oversees and is responsible for ensuring that all equipment and vehicles are maintained properly, and preventative maintenance schedules are implemented according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Adheres to all agency policies related to safety, discrimination and sexual harassment, HIPAA and the Agency's Human Rights Plan.
  • Effectively utilizes volunteers/interns in the business unit to achieve the mission of the organization.
  • Other duties as needed.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP(S):

Reports directly to the Director of Operations, AbilityOne Business Lines; has direct responsibility for supervision of the Mechanic and Crew Leaders and monitors supervision of subordinate staff.

JOB KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS (Essential Functions):

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational/scheduling skills.
  • Excellent computer skills and ability to learn new technology.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to develop, analyze, and implement a budget.
  • Strong working knowledge of horticulture, grounds maintenance and landscaping industry standards.
  • DMV record insurable at normal rates.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High school graduate; college degree preferred. Five years management or supervisory experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, and horticulture.
