Project Accountant – Commercial Construction (Bergen County, NJ)


We are seeking an experienced Project Accountant to join a large commercial construction project in Bergen County, New Jersey. This role supports the financial management, reporting, and cost control of a major project within a general contracting environment.


Role Overview

The Project Accountant is responsible for managing project finances, ensuring accurate reporting, budget control, and compliance with contract requirements. You will work closely with project management to monitor costs, support forecasting, and help maintain project profitability.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain project financial reports
  • Monitor budgets, costs, and commitments
  • Support revenue recognition and forecasting
  • Track and analyse project costs, identifying savings and risks
  • Process subcontractor pay applications and supporting documentation
  • Review subcontractor insurance, bonds, and compliance requirements
  • Manage project invoicing and support accounts receivable
  • Assist with certified payroll compliance and reporting


Candidate Profile

  • Experience in construction accounting or project accounting
  • Strong understanding of job costing and project financial controls
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced general contracting environment
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
