Gaviña Coffee Company is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Production Technician-Production Mechanic to join our manufacturing team in Miami, Florida. In this role, you will be instrumental in maintaining, repairing, and optimizing coffee production equipment to ensure smooth and efficient operations in a manner that minimizes and eliminates the risk of any possible contamination of product and complies with strict regulatory and food safety specifications. Please note that this is not a CNC or IT technician role, but a hands-on production role and experience and familiarity with machinery in the food/beverage production industry is a plus. Pay is flexible between $65-69k to start per year depending on experience.
Duties
- Troubleshooting all mechanical issues with the roasters, grinders, and packaging lines that are reported by the equipment operators or other production team members to try to identify the causes of unexpected breakdowns of machines.
- Performing preventative maintenance and replacing broken or malfunctioning components to minimize downtime, maximize productivity, and ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Thoroughly cleaning machines and machine parts, removing parts and reinstalling as necessary.
- Making sure to oil and lubricate moving parts on machines to ensure effective performance.
- Advising operators and line mechanics of operation procedures and requirements for working safely with electrical and mechanical equipment and components
- Maintaining logs and properly documenting and recording all labor, materials, and equipment used as well as reporting on damaged, worn or broken parts.
- Responding quickly to emergency issues.
- Understanding and programming the software behind the mechanical and electrical systems.
- Cleaning, organizing, doing inventory, and otherwise maintaining shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies.
- Coordinating with managers to schedule any regular third-party maintenance on machines.
- Making necessary modifications and implementing tests runs on equipment and conferring with manager regarding results.
- Partnering and communicating across teams to identify and report on the root cause of equipment failures.
- Adhering to safety regulations and company procedures at all times.
- Hours: Flexible for production needs, but generally day shift from 7am to 4pm, occasional weekends.
Requirements
- This is a fully onsite position and candidate must live in the Miami metro area.
- Must possess exceptional electrical and mechanical abilities with great problem-solving skills.
- Have understanding of AC/CD circuits and motors
- Strong sense of urgency: must complete tasks to ensure production flow
- Meticulous understanding of OSHA safety regulations and quality control
- Critical thinking skills to diagnose problems and offer solutions
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing
- Mus be reliable with a strong work ethic
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment.
- Active listening skills: empathetic toward others, positive attitude, enthusiastic
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, technical drawings and manuals

- Working knowledge of conversational Spanish a plus
Education and Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience with coffee production equipment, including roasters, grinders, and packaging lines is plus.
- Proven experience as a production mechanic or in a similar role
- Experience with mechanical systems, tools, and equipment
- Experience with installing, repairing, troubleshooting, programming and maintaining conveyers, motors, and large production machinery.
Physical Requirements:
- Vision: ability to judge distances and see instructions, specifications and notes. Ability to see in color to distinguish wiring and read specifications and blueprints
- Hands and fingers with dexterity to work with product, equipment parts and controls
- Speaking: ability to verbally communicate information and ideas clearly that others will understand
- Hearing: ability to hear and understand verbal information and speech. Must be able to hear potential mechanical equipment malfunctions and/or alarms
- Requires standing and walking for long periods of time; between 8 to 12 hours or more
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects with and without assistance
- Ability to twist, bend, climb, and lift as needed in open and tight areas in a variety of locations and spaces
- Must be able to work with varying degrees of noise indoors in environmentally controlled conditions as well as occasional exposure to dust and particulates.
