Production Supervisor

Department: VAP Production

Reports To: Production Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

Job Summary

The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily operations of the Value Added Pack (VAP) and/or Bunch production lines to ensure efficient production, quality standards, food safety compliance, and timely order fulfillment. This position coordinates labor, raw product flow, packaging materials, and equipment usage while maintaining a safe and productive work environment.


The Production Supervisor serves as a key communication link between management and line employees, ensuring production goals are met while upholding company standards for quality, safety, and operational efficiency.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Production

  • Follow direction from the Production Manager and execute daily production plans.
  • Monitor production output to ensure orders are packed accurately and on schedule.
  • Adjust production quantities based on product availability and orders.
  • Oversee start-up, line changes, and shutdown of production lines.
  • Monitor line efficiency and reduce downtime and product waste.

Raw Product Flow

  • Track raw product arrivals from West Coast suppliers and coordinate unloading.
  • Monitor delivery of product from B&W harvesting crews to the plant.
  • Ensure product is moved and staged for production as needed.

Inventory & Supplies

  • Monitor inventories of packaging materials, labels, cartons, pallets, and RPCs.
  • Manage empty RPC inventory and coordinate availability for harvest crews.
  • Notify management when supplies are low or shortages may impact production.

Labor Supervision

  • Schedule and assign daily tasks for VAP and/or Bunch personnel.
  • Ensure adequate staffing for production lines.
  • Train employees on production procedures, safety, and quality standards.
  • Maintain a productive and cooperative work environment.

Equipment & Maintenance

  • Monitor equipment operation during production.
  • Notify maintenance of any mechanical issues immediately.

Quality & Food Safety

  • Ensure all product meets company quality standards.
  • Enforce food safety, sanitation, and GMP procedures.
  • Report product or process non-conformities to management.

Communication & Reporting

  • Communicate instructions and updates from management to line employees.
  • Report operational issues, inaccuracies, or concerns to the Production Manager.
  • Track and report production activity as required.

Safety

  • Ensure all employees follow company safety policies.
  • Address unsafe conditions and report safety concerns.

Additional Expectations

  • Must be able to work long hours and weekends when production requires.
  • Promote teamwork and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Perform duties safely and according to B&W standards.


Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervises production line employees in the VAP and/or Bunch departments, including assigning work, monitoring productivity, and training staff.



QUALIFICATIONS :

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2–3+ years of experience in food production, packing house, or manufacturing environments.
  • Previous supervisory or team lead experience in a fast-paced setting preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of production operations, line efficiency, and material flow.
  • Ability to manage labor, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing production needs.
  • Working knowledge of GMPs, food safety standards, and quality control processes (HACCP a plus).
  • Proven leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication skills; bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office and production/inventory systems.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work extended hours as needed.
