Job Title: Process Modeling Engineer
Location: Corning, NY (100% Onsite)
Duration: 12 Months Contract (Possible conversion; no guarantee or defined timeline)
Relocation: Non-local candidates must relocate at their own expense

Position Overview
As a Process Modeling Engineer (Scientist/Engineer), you will model new processes and process conditions to enhance product performance and reduce costs for glass and/or ceramic substrates and filters. The role involves developing and applying analytical and numerical tools to build a fundamental understanding of material and process behavior.
This position requires a strong foundation in solid mechanics, expertise in numerical modeling, and the ability to collaborate with globally distributed teams and customers.

- Model new processes and conditions to improve product performance and reduce costs
- Develop and apply analytical and numerical models (solid mechanics-based simulations)
- Collaborate with global research, engineering, and commercial teams
- Communicate technical results effectively to stakeholders
Core Job Duties
- Apply solid mechanics using analytical methods and FEA/BEM to predict:
- Thermo-mechanical stress
- Deformation/warpage
- Residual stress in glass/ceramic components
- Develop transient thermal-stress models for process cycles (heating/cooling)
- Simulate contact, fixturing, and handling to reduce damage risk and variability
- Evaluate thin film/coating stress and interfacial delamination risk
- Provide mentorship and recommend new modeling/testing capabilities
- Support product engineering and customer-related problem solving
- Prepare technical reports, invention disclosures, and publications
Required Qualifications
- M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field with 4+ years of experience
- OR
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field
Required Skills
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) software (commercial or open-source)
- Strong knowledge of mechanical behavior of soft materials (gels, polymers)
- Ability to convert engineering problems into mathematical models
- Experience designing and validating experiments
- Strong programming and mathematical skills for FEA/BEM modeling
- Experience with tools such as Abaqus or Ansys
Desired Skills
- Experience in thin film mechanics and material characterization
- Experience in process and product engineering
- Knowledge of material testing techniques
- Ability to lead experiments, data analysis, and performance evaluations
