Role Summary
Vertiv is building a global, assessment‑led Data Center Consulting organization and is seeking a Principal Consultant – Power Systems to lead and deliver high‑impact, system‑driven power consulting engagements.
This is a senior consulting role for a recognized power expert who applies Vertiv’s proprietary consulting frameworks, digital tools, and intellectual property to assess, architect, and roadmap facility power environments — including high‑density and AI‑driven workloads.
The Principal Power Consultant does not create bespoke studies. Instead, they operate as a senior practitioner within Vertiv’s consulting operating system, ensuring repeatability, consistency, and scalable value creation while contributing expert insight back into the evolution of Vertiv’s consulting IP.
Primary Objective
Deliver authoritative power consulting engagements through Vertiv’s standardized assessment → architecture → roadmap system, while elevating technical credibility, mentoring consultants, and strengthening Vertiv’s proprietary consulting IP.
Key Responsibilities
1. Senior Power Consulting Delivery
Lead complex facility‑level power assessments using Vertiv’s standardized consulting methodologies and tools, covering: utility interconnects, substations, MV/LV distribution, generators, UPS, PDUs, busway, and rack delivery.
Quantify capacity, resiliency, maintainability, and operational risk, and define AI‑scale power readiness and growth pathways.
Apply advanced power expertise to interpret results and ensure conclusions are technically rigorous, defensible, and actionable, serving as the senior technical authority on power topics within consulting engagements
2. System‑Generated Architecture & Electrical Authority
Translate assessment outputs into system‑generated power architectures and standardized recommendations (not bespoke designs), ensuring repeatability and alignment to Vertiv’s consulting operating system.
Define scalable power strategies aligned to workload density and future growth, including MV/LV distribution strategy, redundancy targets, and growth staging.
Ensure recommendations align with Vertiv reference architectures, product/system capabilities, and global consulting standards.
3. Roadmap Development & Investment Sequencing
Develop phased power roadmaps that prioritize investments, balance performance, risk, and cost, and enable AI readiness and long‑term scalability.
Ensure roadmaps clearly define follow‑on consulting opportunities, design/commissioning/lifecycle services pathways, and hardware/system pull‑through.
4. Consulting IP & Framework Contribution
Provide structured expert feedback to improve assessment models/scoring logic, reference architectures, benchmarks, and assumptions used in Vertiv’s consulting system.
Contribute field learnings to strengthen Vertiv’s consulting IP and “digital thread,” evolving the system based on real‑world power complexity and emerging facility needs.
5. Technical Leadership & Mentorship
Act as a technical mentor to consultants and senior consultants by reviewing deliverables, elevating rigor, and reinforcing system‑based delivery discipline.
Serve as a trusted technical advisor to consulting leadership and internal stakeholders.
6. Executive & Customer Engagement
Engage directly with senior customer stakeholders to explain findings and recommendations, build credibility, and position Vertiv as a differentiated, systems‑led consulting partner.
Support presales and opportunity shaping where senior power authority is required.
Qualifications
10+ years in data center facility power systems, consulting, or reliability engineering; deep expertise in mission‑critical electrical infrastructure; experience with high‑density / AI power requirements; comfortable operating within structured, IP‑driven consulting systems.
