Principal AI Governance Lead


A highly respected, regulated enterprise is seeking an experienced Principal AI Governance Lead to establish and drive a comprehensive AI governance program across the organization.


This is a strategic individual contributor role for a subject matter expert who can shape policy, governance, risk, and responsible AI practices while partnering with senior leaders across technology, risk, compliance, legal, data, and business functions.


Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and evolve enterprise-wide AI governance frameworks, policies, standards, and controls.

• Lead governance initiatives covering responsible AI, model risk, transparency, explainability, and regulatory compliance.

• Integrate AI governance requirements into existing data governance practices, including data quality, lineage, metadata, classification, and usage controls.

• Establish oversight processes for AI initiatives, including use case inventories, risk classification, approvals, and ongoing monitoring.

• Define governance guardrails and collaborate with security, technology, and compliance teams to implement monitoring and enforcement capabilities.

• Maintain AI-related risk registers and support enterprise risk management activities.

• Conduct governance and risk assessments for internally developed and third-party AI solutions.

• Drive AI awareness, training, and adoption of responsible AI practices across the business.

• Facilitate cross-functional governance forums and influence decision-making at both operational and executive levels.

• Monitor emerging regulations, industry standards, and best practices to ensure governance frameworks remain effective and compliant.


What We're Looking For:

✔ 10+ years' experience in data governance, risk management, technology governance, compliance, or related disciplines.

✔ At least 4 years focused on AI, machine learning, or advanced analytics governance.

✔ Strong expertise in data governance disciplines including data quality, metadata management, lineage, and classification.

✔ Deep understanding of the AI/ML lifecycle, from development through deployment and monitoring.

✔ Experience implementing AI risk and governance frameworks within highly regulated environments.

✔ Knowledge of leading AI governance, risk, and ethics frameworks.

✔ Ability to translate complex technical and regulatory concepts into practical business policies and guidance.

✔ Strong stakeholder management and executive communication skills.

✔ Experience with privacy regulations and the governance of data used in AI systems.


Compensation:

• $200-230k base salary

• 30% annual bonus

• 25+ days PTO

• 401k matching
