Job Title: Plumbing Technician (Apprentice / Service)Job DescriptionThis role offers a structured path to become a high-earning plumbing technician, starting with a paid 12-week training program focused on service plumbing. You will perform a wide range of plumbing services, from simple faucet repairs to water heater installations and full plumbing system replacements, while interacting directly with customers, diagnosing issues, and presenting solutions. The position combines hands-on mechanical work with strong customer service and sales skills, offering significant commission-based earning potential once training is complete.
Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to customer service calls and arrive on site prepared to assess plumbing issues.
- Conduct thorough inspections of plumbing systems to accurately diagnose problems and identify root causes.
- Explain findings clearly to customers, present effective repair or replacement solutions, and provide accurate estimates.
- Confidently close service sales by communicating value, options, and guarantees in a professional and approachable manner.
- Install and repair a wide range of plumbing fixtures and systems, including sinks, toilets, bathtubs, water heaters, garbage disposals, dishwashers, and water softeners, as permitted by licensing requirements.
- Perform water heater installations and repairs, including gas, electric, and tankless water heater systems.
- Conduct sewer and drain cleaning services in a variety of environments such as basements, roofs, confined spaces, and tight quarters.
- Use appropriate tools and equipment to clear drains, repair piping, and restore proper function to plumbing systems.
- Ensure all work areas are thoroughly cleaned and restored to pre-job conditions before leaving the site.
- Prepare detailed invoices that accurately total the costs of services and products provided.
- Collect payment from customers, explain applicable guarantees in writing, and review documentation on the provided smartphone or tablet.
- Move efficiently from one service call to the next to maximize productivity and earnings potential.
- Provide excellent customer service by maintaining a friendly, outgoing, and professional demeanor at all times.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, office staff, and teammates to coordinate schedules and service calls.
- Follow safety procedures and guidelines, including those related to excavation and OSHA requirements, once certified.
- Work towards obtaining required licenses and certifications, including excavation and journeyman-level credentials where applicable.
- Participate in paid office meetings and ongoing training sessions to stay current on products, services, and best practices.
- Use company-provided phone, tablet, and service van to manage routes, document work, and communicate with customers and the office.
Essential Skills- At least 1+ years of experience in plumbing, mechanical, HVAC, construction, or a related trade background.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort using power tools and hand tools for installation and repair work.
- Ability to diagnose plumbing issues and perform repair and service plumbing in residential and commercial settings.
- Full knowledge of plumbing systems or a strong foundation with the ability and willingness to quickly develop full knowledge.
- Experience or familiarity with water heater installation and repair, including gas, electric, and tankless water heaters.
- Ability to perform drain cleaning and sewer line work safely and effectively.
- Competence working with PVC, cast iron, copper, and other piping materials.
- Customer-facing skills with an upbeat, confident, and sales-oriented attitude.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective customer service and documentation.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to build rapport with clients and collaborate with co-workers.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a service vehicle safely.
- Comfort working in varied environments, including basements, roofs, confined spaces, and close quarters.
- Ability to manage time effectively, move efficiently between service calls, and handle a high volume of daily work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- At least 1+ years of repair and service plumbing experience preferred, with a proven track record in selling plumbing products and services.
- Experience in retail, autobody, or hands-on home maintenance can be beneficial if paired with strong mechanical aptitude and customer service skills.
- Experience with commercial and residential service plumbing, including preventative maintenance work.
- Knowledge of pumping stations, water systems, gauges, and backflow prevention equipment.
- Backflow certification is a plus; support is available to obtain this certification.
- OSHA 10 certification is a plus; support is available to obtain this certification.
- Ability and willingness to gain Excavation Certification through Competent Person Training (OSHA requirement) within the first year of employment.
- Journeyman plumbing license or equivalent certification, or willingness to obtain licensure as soon as eligible, as required by state law.
- Sales experience, particularly in home services or trades, with the ability to generate business and close service opportunities.
- Approachable, talkative, outgoing, and friendly personality with a strong drive to succeed and increase earnings.
- Comfort using smartphones and tablets to manage work orders, invoices, and customer communication.
- Strong attention to detail in documentation, invoicing, and adherence to company processes.

Work Environment
This is a field-based service plumbing role in both commercial and residential buildings, with technicians on the road throughout the day performing scheduled and on-demand service calls. You clock in as soon as you leave home each morning, and mileage is compensated, reflecting the mobile nature of the job. Work schedules follow set shifts that do not rotate once assigned, typically covering either Sunday through Thursday or Tuesday through Saturday, with possible morning, swing, or graveyard shifts depending on business needs. The work involves entering basements, roofs, confined spaces, and tight quarters, and using a variety of plumbing tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment to complete installations, repairs, and drain cleaning. You will use a company-provided service van, smartphone, and tablet to navigate to jobs, communicate with the office, document work, and process invoices. Office meetings are brief and paid, and most time is spent in the field providing hands-on service in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
