SALARY $170K-$190K


ONSITE 100% MON-FRI Allendale NJ MUST BE OK COMMUTING HERE EVERYDAY NON NEGOTIABLE.

Controller

Job Purpose

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for building and formalizing the company’s financial infrastructure within a growing manufacturing environment. The Controller will serve as the company’s technical accounting authority while partnering closely with operations and leadership to improve financial visibility, cost discipline, and decision-making.


Key Responsibilities

Accounting Operations

Direct all accounting operations including:

General Ledger

Accounts Payable

Accounts Receivable

Payroll

Fixed Assets

Cost Accounting

Establish scalable financial systems and structured accounting processes.

Develop disciplined financial and cost accounting frameworks to support growth and operational performance.

Financial Reporting & Close Process

Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes with accuracy and timeliness.

Develop and manage budgeting and forecasting processes.

Prepare financial statements including:

Profit & Loss

Balance Sheet

Cash Flow Statements

Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP.

Develop KPIs, financial dashboards, and management reporting tools.

Deliver variance analysis and financial performance reporting to leadership.

Maintain audit-ready financial records and supporting documentation.

Cost Accounting & Manufacturing Finance

Design and implement standardized product costing systems.

Establish methodologies for:

Material allocation

Labor allocation

Overhead allocation

Partner with operations to validate:

BOMs (Bill of Materials)

Labor standards

Cost drivers

Improve product-level margin visibility to support pricing and profitability decisions.

Conduct structured variance analysis across production and cost inputs.

Oversee inventory valuation for:

Raw Materials

Work-in-Process

Finished Goods

Identify cost drivers and collaborate with operations to improve efficiency and margins.

Financial Systems & Controls

Evaluate, redesign, and implement ERP and financial systems.

Integrate purchasing, inventory, and accounting processes.

Improve automation and operational efficiency across finance functions.

Strengthen internal controls and optimize working capital.

Build scalable financial processes to support long-term growth.

Qualifications

Technical & Functional Qualifications

Strong expertise in U.S. GAAP and full-cycle financial reporting.

Extensive experience in manufacturing cost accounting including:

Standard costing

Variance analysis

Inventory valuation

Experience building or improving product costing systems in manufacturing environments.

Advanced Excel skills required, including:

Financial modeling

Cost roll-ups

Variance analysis tools

ERP implementation or evaluation experience in manufacturing environments strongly preferred.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.

Leadership & Professional Qualifications

High level of integrity, accountability, confidentiality, and ownership.

Strong communication and presentation skills.

Proven ability to lead and develop accounting teams.

Experience partnering cross-functionally with operations and executive leadership.

Ability to manage competing priorities and execute in a structured environment.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.

CPA designation strongly preferred.

Minimum 8 years of accounting experience.

At least 3 years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role.

Strong manufacturing and cost accounting background required.

Working Conditions

Office-based position located in Allendale, NJ with regular presence on the manufacturing floor.

Extended hours may be required during:

Month-end close

Year-end reporting

Budgeting cycles

Audit periods

Occasional exposure to manufacturing environments with moving mechanical equipment.

PPE and safety protocols must be followed in production areas.

Noise levels in manufacturing areas may range from moderate to high.

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of sitting and computer work.

Frequent use of hands and fingers for standard office equipment.

Ability to move throughout office and manufacturing facilities.

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods as needed.

Occasional lifting and/or moving of materials up to 50 pounds.
