Job Description

The Pipefitter installs, assembles, and tests piping systems in new construction and industrial environments by interpreting blueprints and specifications, selecting appropriate materials, and using a variety of tools and equipment to ensure safe, accurate, and high‑quality work.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and technical manuals to determine the full scope of work, including pipe locations, quantities, and material requirements.
  • Select the appropriate type and size of pipe, fittings, valves, and related materials and equipment according to project specifications and applicable codes.
  • Cut, thread, bend, and assemble pipes using hand and power tools to meet design and layout requirements.
  • Prepare, cut, fabricate, lay out, fit, position, and assemble piping components in various positions to create complete piping systems.
  • Bolt, clamp, and tack‑weld parts to secure piping components in place for final welding operations.
  • Install hangers, supports, valves, and other components according to piping system plans and specifications.
  • Perform leak tests on pipes and piping systems to verify quality, integrity, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Identify, select, and safely use tools and equipment required for tasks, including grinders, drills, beveling machines, and similar tools.
  • Operate forklifts and overhead cranes to move materials and components safely around the job site.
  • Hoist and move loads using slings, chains, shackles, hooks, cables, and other rigging equipment in a safe and controlled manner.
  • Follow applicable codes, procedures, and quality standards during fabrication, installation, and testing of piping systems.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to coordinate work, resolve issues, and maintain project schedules.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and adhere to all site safety rules and practices.

Essential Skills

  • Proficient pipefitting skills, including cutting, threading, bending, and assembling pipe.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, and piping specifications.
  • Ability to understand and follow technical manuals, instructions, and work procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret weld symbols, weld procedures, and mechanical and structural drawings.
  • Skilled in using oxy/fuel and plasma hand cutting torches, including plasma cutting processes.
  • Competent in the safe use of grinders, drills, beveling machines, and related fabrication tools.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and overhead cranes safely and effectively.
  • Ability to use rigging equipment such as slings, chains, shackles, hooks, and cables for hoisting loads.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality when fabricating and installing piping systems.
  • Ability to perform leak tests and verify the integrity of piping systems.
  • Capability to work safely on active construction and industrial sites and follow safety procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Pipefitting experience working in accordance with B31.3, B31.4, and API 1104 codes.
  • Welding and/or tacking experience using the GTAW (TIG) process.
  • Familiarity with weld inspections and related inspection documentation.
  • NCCER Certification as an Industrial Pipe Fitter.
  • Formal or technical education in a related trade or field.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to various job sites for short assignments as needed.

Work Environment

This role is based onsite at various new construction and industrial locations, where you will work directly on active projects and in field conditions. The typical schedule for local work is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. You will be expected to travel initially until more local projects are underway, and may be asked to travel periodically thereafter; travel assignments are not expected to exceed three weeks at a time. When traveling more than 50 miles from home, you receive per diem. The work involves using industrial tools and equipment such as forklifts, overhead cranes, grinders, drills, beveling machines, cutting torches, and rigging gear in a safety‑focused environment that follows construction and industrial site protocols.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ladson, SC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.
