Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education:

Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).

  • Experience:
  • Completion of a fellowship or residency in Orthopedic Medicine, OR Minimum of 2 years of full-time experience within the last 3 years as an Orthopedic PA.
  • Certification:
  • Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Licensure:

Hold a current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a PA in any U.S. state or territory (including D.C., Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands).

Immunization Requirements (Must be current or able to obtain):

  • Hepatitis B (series and titer)
  • Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis)
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
  • Varicella (Chickenpox)
  • TB (Tuberculosis) test
  • Seasonal Influenza (flu) vaccine
  • COVID-19 vaccine (if applicable)

Key Responsibilities:

As a Physician Assistant in the Orthopedic Department, your role includes but is not limited to:

  • Provide comprehensive musculoskeletal care, including:
  • Evaluation and treatment of sprains, strains, contusions, back/neck pain, sports injuries, rheumatic diseases, and chronic pain.
  • Management of neuromuscular and peripheral nervous system disorders.
  • Injury rehabilitation and functional capacity assessments.
  • Assist in pre-, intra-, and post-operative orthopedic procedures, such as:
  • Physical assessments, surgical prep, instrumentation setup, first/second assist during procedures.
  • Wound care, dressing changes, splint/cast changes, and suture removal.
  • Perform patient evaluations:
  • Participate in daily rounds, review diagnostic results, write progress notes, and prepare discharge summaries.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge patients (orders to be reviewed by a supervising physician).
  • Respond to pages/calls from the ER, clinics, and fleet regarding musculoskeletal issues.
  • Review and respond to consults via the computerized referral system.
