Phlebotomist II

The main function of a Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make workflow recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.
• Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
• Decontaminate equipment and update patient information.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections, such as urine or fecal, in a clear and courteous manner.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand all physicians' orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against the script to ensure accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperatures.
• Follow procedures necessary for transport to maintain the integrity of the specimen.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department training sessions.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, if required.
• Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• 2-4 years of related experience.

• At least 6 months of hands-on phlebotomy experience.

The work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, with a future shift change to 8:45 am to 5:45 pm.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Wichita, KS.

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Wichita,KS.
