Job Title: Industrial Paint Preparation Helper – 1st Shift
Job Description

This role supports industrial painting operations by preparing surfaces, assisting with coating applications, and performing general labor in a busy shop environment. You will work on the 1st shift from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., using hand tools and industrial equipment to ensure surfaces are properly cleaned, sanded, and ready for high-quality paint and coating application.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare metal and other industrial surfaces for painting by cleaning, scraping, masking, sanding, and using industrial grinders to remove rust and smooth surfaces.
  • Assist with mixing, thinning, and preparing industrial paints, coatings, and primers according to specifications.
  • Support coating application by helping set up and operate spray equipment under guidance, ensuring even and accurate coverage.
  • Clean and maintain painting tools, spray guns, hoses, and abrasive blasting equipment to keep them in safe and reliable working condition.
  • Load and unload materials, parts, and components, including moving heavy items as needed for production.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area by removing debris, organizing tools, and following shop housekeeping standards.
  • Follow all safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment while working with paints, coatings, and industrial equipment.
  • Collaborate with team members and take direction from lead personnel to meet production schedules and quality expectations.
Essential Skills
  • Ability to lift and move 50–75 pounds frequently and perform physically demanding, heavy labor throughout the shift.
  • Experience or strong comfort using basic hand tools for scraping, sanding, and general labor tasks.
  • Comfort working in an industrial shop environment, including exposure to high temperatures during summer months.
  • Physical stamina to stand, bend, reach, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
  • Attention to detail when preparing surfaces to ensure proper adhesion and finish quality.
  • Willingness to follow safety procedures and use appropriate protective equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Familiarity with industrial painting, paint prep, or surface preparation in a manufacturing or shop setting.
  • Experience assisting with coating application using spray equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning and maintaining spray guns, hoses, and abrasive blasting equipment.
  • Previous general labor experience in an industrial or production environment.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and take direction in a fast-paced setting.

Work Environment

This position is based in an industrial shop environment on the 1st shift from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. You will work around industrial painting and surface preparation operations, including sanding, grinding, and spray application. The shop may be warm, especially during summer, and the work is physically demanding, involving frequent lifting of 50–75 pounds, standing for long periods, and performing repetitive motions. You will regularly use hand tools, industrial grinders, spray equipment, hoses, and abrasive blasting tools. Appropriate work attire and personal protective equipment are required to ensure safety while working with paints, coatings, and industrial machinery.

This is a Contract position based out of Spartanburg, SC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
