Job Description

This position is responsible for designing, implementing, administering and maintaining database technology solutions and the solutions that rely upon them. The Database Administrator must have experience working with application partners to define and satisfy requirements for solutions leveraging database technology. This position will be responsible for creating and maintaining related documentation to enable sustainable support.

The person that accepts this position must have the ability to provide after hours (on-call) support, and maintain a flexible work schedule to accommodate planned and unplanned maintenance activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer Oracle and MS-SQL Databases (upgrades, maintenance, physical database layout, reorganizations, backup and restore strategy, archiving strategy, database security, performance, storage, problem determination and resolution).
  • Implement and maintain databases across development, test, training and production environments.
  • Participate in full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) processes, ensuring proper integration with other systems.
  • Provide recommendations for enterprise architecture and optimal database configuration to maximize performance and availability.
  • Design and implement approaches to improve database performance, capacity, and scalability.
  • Work closely with Quality Assurance, Operations, and project teams to support deployment, integration, and implementation strategies.
  • Participate in business requirement gathering, determine feasibility, define technical specifications, and provide detailed estimates.
  • Provide 24x7 on-call technical support.

Must Haves:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, related degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 3–5 years experience installing, configuring, administering, tuning, and troubleshooting database products.
  • Experience with MS-SQL and Oracle databases in virtualized Windows and Linux environments.
  • Experience with backups, recovery, cloning, performance troubleshooting, and high availability technologies (RAC, AlwaysOn Availability Groups).
  • Experience with query tuning, database patching, replication, log shipping, and data movement technologies (including Oracle Data Guard).
  • Experience with T-SQL, PowerShell, PL-SQL, Linux Shell scripting, and automation tools.
  • Strong communication, documentation, time management, and teamwork skills.
  • Willing and able to work beyond normal hours for critical system issues or maintenance.

Plusses:

  • Experience with Teradata or Mongo DB.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS, Azure).
  • Previous retail industry experience.
