Operations and Procurement Specialist

$70,000-$85,000 DOE + Benefits

Before You Apply
This role requires fluency in all import and export freight forwarding terminology. You must also have experience with import and export, customs and ocean freight. If you do not have this experience, this role will not be a fit.
The Opportunity
This position supports the daily activities of both the Operations and Procurement Departments. The position requires attentiveness to detail, the ability to work both as part of a team and independently, and a desire to learn new tasks in an ever-changing environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
What You’ll Own
- Serve as a liaison between the Operations and Procurement Departments, allowing Managers to focus on their priorities by providing support in any way possible.
- Create, track, analyze, and reconcile various import, export, and procurement reports.
- Identify opportunities and offer recommendations to implement solutions and improve cost efficiency during the normal course of business.
- Interface with foreign suppliers concerning load setup, documentation, and shipment status.
- Monitor inbound ocean traffic through to the Port of Discharge, including load reporting.
- Generate all required U.S. Customs documentation for ocean, Canadian border crossings and air sample entries.
- Interface closely with the Custom Brokers in matters related to ISF, processing load clearance, assessorial charges, US Customs and Partner Government Agency release.
- Review and authorize all invoices for brokerage services.
- Request delivery appointments for specific customers and convey this information to the appropriate in-land carrier promptly.
- Initiate load delivery through the generation and release of standard delivery request documentation. Follow up with in-land carriers to facilitate the pickup and delivery of loads.
- Review and authorize all drayage and truckload invoices.
- Book ocean freight, compare freight costs and review the freight invoices.
- Maintain department electronic databases, including load documents, ISF processing documents, USMCA, and HACCP documents.
- Schedule and document all US-bound FTL/Drayage loads to client Distribution Centers.
- Generate and issue Bills of Lading and related documents for Canadian FTL and LTL loads.
- Compile annual Truck and Ocean usage activity required for yearly insurance renewal.
- Packing and shipping samples with FedEx to customers.
- Ordering shipping labels, supplies and arranging with the courier for timely delivery.
What You Bring
- Two or more years of logistics experience, with an emphasis on ocean import/export freight.
- Ability to perform required duties independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to interface with multiple Customs Brokers regarding US Customs and FDA processing.
- General knowledge of US Customs and FDA regulations is required.
- Experience interfacing with multiple in-land drayage carriers, specific to container delivery.
- General knowledge of Cargo Terminal operations preferred.
- Basic understanding of US Seafood HACCP principles and Certification preferred. HACCP certification will be required to continue in this position.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Your Knowledge
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate or Undergraduate degree preferred. Degree in related logistics discipline is a plus.
