Mechanical Design Engineer II | Hybrid | Richmond, VA | 12-Month Contract 🚨
We’re partnering with a leading global energy and industrial engineering organization to hire an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer II for a high-impact contract opportunity supporting steam power services operations across the Americas.
📍 Location: Richmond, Virginia (Hybrid – 1-2 days onsite weekly)
🕗 Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm
💰 Rate: $61.46 per hour
📅 Contract Length: 12 months
Travel: Up to 10% domestic travel for customer site visits
Join a specialist engineering team focused on steam turbine service delivery, outage planning, complex repairs, technical troubleshooting, and component design. This role offers the chance to work across industrial, fossil, and nuclear turbine projects while collaborating with global engineering teams to deliver safe, reliable, and quality-driven solutions.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance during outage planning and field execution
- Lead complex repairs involving rotors, diaphragms, casings, valves, and related components
- Act as engineering focal point across projects, liaising with sales, sourcing, quality, project management, and service teams
- Deliver engineering milestones on time and to technical requirements
- Support upgrades, capital parts programs, valve solutions, and engineering studies
- Conduct root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions
- Support inspection/test planning for assembly, disassembly, and repair scopes
- Participate in qualification reviews, risk assessments, and customer-facing technical discussions
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 5+ years’ experience in steam turbine service engineering
- 2+ years’ field execution experience within power generation preferred
- Strong understanding of steam turbine systems and balance of plant operations
- Experience with turbine inspections, repairs, assembly/disassembly, startups, and operations
- CATIA CAD experience is advantageous
