The Math & Science Teacher will create a classroom culture grounded in community, respect, and student voice, using Responsive Classroom strategies to foster belonging, engagement, and independence.The Math/Science Teacher is responsible for creating and implementing lesson plans that engage students in the study of mathematical concepts and scientific principles, including real-world applications, problem-solving, and inquiry-based learning. They should foster a classroom environment that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and perseverance. The teacher will teach grade-level classes to 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students in our departmentalized upper school. Mathematics instruction is grounded in a structured, conceptually rich approach using Eureka Math, emphasizing coherence, fluency, and deep understanding. Science instruction emphasizes hands-on learning, experimentation, and exploration of scientific concepts.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesInstruction and Curriculum Development:Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate lesson plans in both mathematics and science that encourage active learning.Develop instructional materials, lesson plans, and assessments aligned with ESNs academic standards and best practices.Implement the Eureka Math curriculum with fidelity while adapting instruction to meet student needs.Design and facilitate inquiry-based science lessons that include experimentation and real-world applications.Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning styles and needs of students.Integrate technology and innovative teaching strategies to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.Establish clear learning objectives and communicate them effectively to students.Classroom Management and Student Development:Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment grounded in Responsive Classroom practices.Establish and maintain classroom expectations, routines, and procedures that promote a positive learning atmosphere and growth mindset.Encourage curiosity, risk-taking, and perseverance in both mathematical and scientific thinking.Monitor student behavior and address discipline issues in accordance with ESNs policies.Provide constructive and regular feedback on student progress, both orally and in writing.Support students social-emotional development and well-being in alignment with ESNs values.Assessment and Progress Monitoring:Assess and monitor student learning through formative and summative assessments, including problem-solving tasks, projects, and lab-based work.Maintain accurate and timely records of student progress, attendance, and performance.Prepare and share progress reports, report cards, and parent communications as required.Conduct parent-teacher conferences and maintain open, proactive communication with families.Collaboration and Professional Development:Work collaboratively with colleagues, administrators, and student support staff to enhance student learning.Participate in faculty meetings, department meetings, and professional development opportunities, including training in Eureka Math and Responsive Classroom practices.Support ESNs community by participating in extracurricular activities, clubs, and school events.Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth and continuous learning.Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth and reflective practice.Qualifications and SkillsBachelors degree in education, mathematics, science, or a related field (Masters degree preferred).Valid teaching certification or licensure in the applicable subject/grade level preferred.Experience in student-centered, inquiry-based, and differentiated instruction.Experience teaching mathematics and/or science at the upper elementary or middle grades level.Familiarity with or experience implementing Eureka Math or similar math programs (preferred).Strong classroom management skills and ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.Proficiency in integrating technology into instruction and assessment.Commitment to ESNs mission and values, including respect for diverse perspectives and backgrounds.Physical RequirementsAbility to sit, stand, walk, and actively engage with students throughout the school day.Capability to lift/move up to 10 pounds occasionally.Ability to facilitate hands-on learning and classroom experiments safely.Use of technology, including computers, tablets, and classroom equipment.Additional InformationThis is a Full-Time position reporting to the Principal.Teaching assignments may be adjusted based on candidate strengths and school needs.Episcopal School of Nashville is an equal-opportunity employer committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive educational environment.
