Job Title: Material Handler

Job Description

The Material Handler operates a sit-down forklift and performs a wide range of shipping, receiving, and material handling activities in a clean, organized warehouse environment. This role focuses on accurately picking, staging, loading, and unloading materials and supplies while maintaining inventory control and caring for company equipment. The position requires the ability to follow work orders, work effectively as part of a team, and complete tasks independently to keep operations running smoothly.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a sit-down forklift safely and efficiently to move materials throughout the facility.
  • Perform a variety of tasks related to shipping and receiving a wide range of materials and supplies.
  • Read and interpret work orders to determine inventory locations and required quantities.
  • Locate, pick, and pull inventory according to work orders and place the correct quantities on pallets.
  • Stage product for outgoing freight and load trucks as needed.
  • Wrap, weigh, and pack products as required for shipment.
  • Load and unload trucks using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment.
  • Use RF scan guns and computer systems to support inventory control and warehouse operations.
  • Maintain accurate warehouse inventory and support inventory control processes.
  • Work as part of a team, taking direction when required, while also working independently to complete assigned tasks.
  • Care for and properly maintain company-provided equipment, tools, and vehicles.
  • Perform other tasks or projects as assigned to support warehouse and operational needs.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year of forklift operating experience.
  • Current OSHA forklift certification.
  • Proficiency operating a sit-down forklift in a warehouse environment.
  • Experience with shipping and receiving processes.
  • Ability to perform material handling tasks, including loading and unloading trucks.
  • Ability to read and follow work orders accurately.
  • Experience picking orders and staging product for outgoing freight.
  • Basic computer skills for supporting warehouse and inventory activities.
  • Ability to lift up to 70 pounds safely.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working as a material handler in a warehouse or distribution environment.
  • Experience using pallet jacks and RF scan guns.
  • Experience in warehouse operations and warehouse inventory control.
  • Familiarity with inventory control processes and procedures.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy in order pulling and inventory handling.

Work Environment

The work environment is clean, organized, and maintained to support efficient warehouse operations. While the facility is not temperature controlled, it stays cool enough in the summer and does not become excessively hot. The role is based in a warehouse setting using sit-down forklifts, pallet jacks, RF scan guns, and computer systems to manage inventory and support shipping and receiving. Multiple shifts are available, including 1st shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., 2nd shift from 3:30 p.m. to midnight, and 3rd shift from 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. The dress code is casual, and employees have access to a nice cafeteria and vending machines on-site.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Marion, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
