Job Description

The Material Handler receives, verifies, and records incoming materials, ensures accurate inventory management in the ERP system, and safely moves materials throughout the facility using appropriate material handling equipment. This role supports GMP and non-GMP operations by handling controlled substances, chemicals, and time-sensitive shipments, while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations and internal policies. The position requires strong attention to detail, safe forklift operation, and the ability to work efficiently under strict deadlines in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.

Responsibilities

  • Unload, unpack, and verify the specifications and quantities of incoming materials against documentation.
  • Record shipment and receipt data accurately in the ERP computer system (or equivalent) to maintain up-to-date inventory records.
  • Deliver or route materials to the appropriate departments or staging areas using material handling equipment such as hand trucks, forklifts, pallet jacks, or carts.
  • Receive GMP materials, controlled substances, chemicals, and overnight or rush shipments that require immediate attention and timely delivery to requesting departments.
  • Replenish central inventory and enter all related transactions and requirements into the ERP system (or equivalent).
  • Inspect the physical condition of the warehouse, storage areas, and equipment, and organize inventory for efficient storage and shipment.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other typical warehouse equipment safely and in accordance with company procedures.
  • Participate in cyclical audits of central inventory items to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Pick up and deliver intercompany mail within the facility as needed.
  • Stage materials for manufacturing to ensure production has timely access to required components and supplies.
  • Prepare and ship GMP and non-GMP materials in accordance with regulatory and company requirements.
  • Handle labeling, picking, packing, packaging, loading, and unloading activities to support shipping and receiving operations.
  • Use RF scanners and related tools to pick orders and track inventory movements.
  • Load and unload trucks, including heavy lifting, while following safe material handling practices.
  • Carry out all duties in compliance with state and federal regulations and guidelines, including FDA, EPA, DOT, OSHA, and DEA requirements.
  • Follow all company and site policies, procedures, and safety protocols, especially when working around hazardous materials.
  • Respond to time-sensitive and rush requests from internal clients and adapt to changing priorities and demands.

Skills

  • 1–2 years of material handling experience in a warehouse, distribution, or manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience with GMP or MRP systems, preferably SAP, for inventory and materials management.
  • Proven forklift operating experience, including stand-up and sit-down forklifts.
  • Experience with pallet jack operation and other material handling equipment.
  • Experience in shipping and receiving, including loading and unloading trucks and processing inbound and outbound shipments.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds safely and repeatedly.
  • Familiarity with GMP practices and working in regulated environments.
  • Experience with order picking, packing, and packaging tasks.
  • Ability to use RF scanners or similar devices for picking and inventory tracking.
  • Comfort working with ERP systems for recording transactions and managing inventory.
  • Strong attention to detail when verifying materials and recording data.
  • Ability to work under strict and tight deadlines while managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Commitment to following safety procedures when working with hazardous materials, chemicals, and compounds.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Pharmaceutical or manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Experience working in environments governed by regulations such as FDA, EPA, DOT, OSHA, and DEA is beneficial.
  • General labor and production experience supporting warehouse or manufacturing operations.
  • Experience with labeling, inventory control, and cyclical inventory audits.
  • Ability to work outside normal working hours when required to meet operational needs.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with internal departments and respond to client demands.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with a high concentration of work and competing priorities.

Work Environment

This role operates in a busy warehouse and manufacturing support environment with a very high concentration of work and strict, time-sensitive deadlines. You will frequently stand, walk, use your hands to handle materials and equipment, and communicate with team members, and you will occasionally sit, reach, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch. The position requires the ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds and to work around latex, chemicals, compounds, and dust, with a strong emphasis on following safety procedures. You will work with material handling equipment such as stand-up and sit-down forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, carts, RF scanners, and ERP systems like SAP. The environment can include hazardous conditions that require strict adherence to safety and regulatory guidelines. Work may extend outside normal working hours to meet operational demands and respond to urgent requests. Steel-toe shoes are required while working, and appropriate safety attire and protective equipment must be worn in designated areas.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
