Production Manager – Hands‑On Leadership for a Custom Manufacturing Environment

Role Overview

We are a small, highly collaborative manufacturer producing unique, custom‑engineered hardware. The Production Manager plays a central role in daily operations—working closely with the team on the floor, ensuring safe and efficient production, and upholding the highest standards of quality.

Key Responsibilities

Production Leadership & Operations
  • Lead day‑to‑day manufacturing activities across production, assembly, and shipping.
  • Build and manage production schedules aligned with demand and capacity.
  • Oversee execution of manufacturing orders with clear communication and team coordination.
  • Track WIP, takt time, throughput, and constraints to maintain smooth flow.
  • Step in on the production floor to support assembly, troubleshooting, or workflow needs.
  • Review operational and non‑compliance reports; resolve issues to prevent delays and reduce cost.
  • Support JIT practices to minimize waste and improve responsiveness.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
  • Ensure safe operations aligned with OSHA, electrical safety, and internal standards.
  • Maintain compliance with ISO 9001, GMP, and other regulated manufacturing requirements.
  • Ensure accurate completion of travelers, QC checklists, and audit documentation.
  • Partner with Quality to address nonconformances, root‑cause issues, and corrective actions.
  • Conduct training aligned with SOPs, quality expectations, and operational best practices.
Continuous Improvement
  • Lead Lean, 5S, Kaizen, and other improvement initiatives.
  • Implement KPIs and dashboards to track performance and drive accountability.
  • Identify opportunities to improve labor efficiency, machine utilization, and cycle time.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to enhance product quality and throughput.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with Supply Chain, Engineering, Quality, Inside Sales, Warehouse, and Shipping to ensure material readiness and accurate reconciliation.
  • Communicate production status, risks, and priorities to leadership.
  • Provide timely insights on issues affecting delivery, quality, productivity, or cost.
Team Leadership & Culture
  • Manage, coach, and develop production leads, assemblers, and technicians.
  • Maintain staffing levels, coordinate schedules, and support onboarding and training.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, respect, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing experience.
  • 5+ years leading teams in small to mid‑sized manufacturing environments.
  • Experience in electronics or electromechanical assembly strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical safety, OSHA requirements, and safe manufacturing practices.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, audits, and regulated manufacturing environments (GMP a plus).
  • Hands‑on experience with electromechanical assembly, soldering, machining, or facilities operations.
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems, production metrics, and operational KPIs.
  • Training in 5S and familiarity with Lean/Kaizen methodologies.
  • Strong communication, leadership, coaching, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a small‑company setting where adaptability, teamwork, and culture fit are essential.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Alameda, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $120000.00/yr.
