Managing Director, Asset Management


We are seeking a Managing Director, Asset Management to lead and direct the strategic performance of a premier commercial portfolio, with a primary focus on retail assets across the US. The MD is responsible for the full lifecycle of asset performance, from initial acquisition due diligence through to final disposition. As a key leader, you will oversee the implementation of value-add strategies for retail holdings, manage diverse third-party teams, and serve as a critical advisor to the Investment Committee.


Core Responsibilities

  • Retail Strategy & Oversight: Develop and execute comprehensive business plans and capital improvement programs for a national retail-heavy portfolio.
  • Performance Leadership: Supervise leasing initiatives, property operations, and financial analyses (IRR and time-weighted basis) to ensure retail assets exceed underwriting benchmarks.
  • Team Management: Direct and motivate a high-performing team, including internal analytical professionals and third-party property managers, leasing staff, and construction vendors.
  • Investment Collaboration: Partner with the Investment Group to conduct due diligence on new retail opportunities, audit pro forma models, and validate underwriting assumptions.
  • Portfolio Health: Manage asset-level debt and loan covenants while overseeing valuations and providing data-driven hold vs. sale recommendations.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Present portfolio performance reviews to leadership and trustees, and participate in investor calls to shape the firm’s retail investment vision.


Candidate Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 15 years in commercial real estate asset management with a significant focus on the retail sector.
  • Leadership: At least 6 years of direct experience managing and overseeing analytical professionals.
  • Education: Undergraduate degree in Finance, Real Estate, or Accounting is required ; a Master’s degree or professional designation (e.g., CPM) is preferred.
  • Technical Expertise: Mastery of DCF, NPV, and IRR calculations, with proficiency in ARGUS Enterprise, Excel, and MRI or Yardi.
  • Knowledge Base: Deep understanding of the private equity real estate market, joint venture agreements, and retail lease structures.
  • Preferred Skills: Experience in ground-up development, retail renovations, and managing leveraged assets is highly regarded.
