SUMMARY

The Manager, QA is responsible for managing a team of QA resources, while spearheading the shift toward a modern, automation-forward practice. This role ensures reliable, secure, and high-quality software delivery through hands-on team leadership, day-to-day test execution oversight, and championing the adoption of automation across high-value workflows. The Manager, QA coaches and develops staff, implements established testing standards, identifies and escalates risks, and ensures all quality benchmarks are met before release to market. The Manager, QA translates quality objectives into actionable team plans, partnering closely with Engineering, Product, and Program Management peers to embed quality throughout the Software Development Life Cycle.

KEY OUTCOMES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Outcome: Execute and Operationalize QA Strategy

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute the overall QA strategy set by leadership, translating it into team plans aligned with business, technology, and delivery goals.
  • Own day-to-day test planning, test case design, execution, defect management, and release readiness
  • Coordinate comprehensive test coverage (functional, regression, integration, performance, UAT)
  • Coordinate testing for complex, cross-platform systems and integrations

Key Outcome: Advance Test Automation and Scalable QA Practices

Key Responsibilities:

  • Spearhead rollout and ongoing operation of test automation
  • Prioritize candidates for automation and expand coverage
  • Build scalable, maintainable automated test suites and steadily increasing coverage, testing efficiency, and release velocity
  • Implement and enforce QA standards, testing frameworks, and best practices across manual, automated, performance, and compliance and security testing
  • Recommend and operate QA tools; partner with leadership on tool selection decisions

Key Outcome: Drive Quality, Compliance, and Continuous Improvement Through Data

Key Responsibilities:

  • Track and report on quality metrics (defects, coverage, escape rates, cycle time)
  • Use data to surface risks and recommend improvements
  • Continuously refine QA processes and workflows
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls, regulatory standards, and audit requirements
  • Drive measurable improvements in product quality and reduction in production defects

Key Outcome: Engage, retain, and enable performance of talent

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute and proactively manage talent plans. Assess, hire, on-board, and grow role-appropriate talent
  • Manage a team; set clear, outcome-based performance goals. Establish and maintain development plans for each.
  • Provide effective feedback that enables employees to improve and work toward goals, while seeking feedback from team to enable inclusion and continuous improvement
  • Remove barriers to enable team outcomes
  • Provide opportunities for growth and development, while mentoring and inspiring employees to unlock their full potential

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in software quality assurance.
  • Relevant work experience required
  • Strong understanding of SDLC, Agile, and DevOps methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience with test automation frameworks and CI/CD integration.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based architecture and modern development stacks.

COMPENSATION

Butler/Till is committed to providing pay transparency of our compensation philosophy and ensuring equitable pay practices for our employee owners. The compensation range for this position is $95,000 - $149,000 and represents the annual salary range in Rochester, NY. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience.

This is just one component of Butler/Till’s total compensation package for employee owners. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including ESOP (employee stock ownership plan), an annual bonus, in addition to a full benefits package, and paid time off benefits, including 100% paid parental leave.
