The Utilities Department operatesand maintains water and sewer systems in defined service areas in eastern York County and western York County. The department purchases water from the City of Rock Hill. The county has in excess of 22,000 retail customers in its service areas. York County also provides service to the City of York. Sewer service is provided through a collection system owned by York County with treatment being provided by the City of Rock Hill's Manchester Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility.York County Utilities is seeking to hire full-time (40 hour/weekly), non-exempt Maintenance Technician's to join their team! The purpose of this position is to maintain and operate the water and sewer systems of the county.

Projected Salary Range/Pay Grade 112:$21.42 - $25.70 per hour. Salary is determined based on qualifications.

Work Schedule: Typical hours are 7:00 am - 4:00 pm with occasional overtime based on operational needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates in the construction/installation, maintenance, and repair of water and sewer lines and appurtenances.
  • Transports and operates heavy equipment as needed for daily tasks.
  • Receives and responds to customer requests by way of work orders to locate underground utilities, check meters, etc.
  • Cleans clogged sewer mains and manholes.
  • Conducts thorough checks of the water and sewer system.
  • Operates all vehicles and equipment of the water and sewer department. Ability to drive county vehicles required to perform this required task.
  • Installs and operates automatic meter reading equipment.
  • Works with Engineering to inspect new construction.
  • Responds to emergency calls and does emergency repairs 24 hours a day 7 days per week.
  • Attends meetings, training, and seminars to enhance job knowledge and skills.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
  • One (1) year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Certifications and Licenses:

  • Valid state Class A, Commercial driver’s license.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification or the ability to obtain.

Physical Demands: Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

  • Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment): Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

  • Involves routine and frequent exposure to:
    • Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.
