Job Title: Entry-Level Technician

Job Description

This entry-level role in the maintenance department offers hands-on experience supporting wastewater treatment and utility systems in an automotive manufacturing environment. You will shadow experienced maintenance personnel, assist with daily operations, and perform basic inspections, repairs, and documentation while learning industry-standard safety and regulatory practices.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the daily operation and monitoring of wastewater treatment systems, including pumps, motors, tanks, piping, and related equipment.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on wastewater and utility equipment under the guidance of experienced technicians.
  • Carry out basic mechanical repairs on equipment such as pumps, gearboxes, and bearings as directed.
  • Collect wastewater samples and assist with basic testing and documentation in accordance with established procedures.
  • Monitor gauges, meters, and control panels, promptly reporting abnormal conditions or system irregularities to supervision.
  • Support chemical handling, dosing, and inventory management while strictly following established safety procedures.
  • Respond to alarms or system issues and support troubleshooting efforts to help identify root causes and corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate logs, checklists, and maintenance records for equipment, inspections, and repairs.
  • Follow all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements, including OSHA, EPA, and applicable local standards.
  • Maintain clean and orderly housekeeping standards in wastewater and utility areas to promote a safe work environment.
  • Support other maintenance or utility functions as needed, including assisting with welding tasks and general mechanical work.
  • Collaborate with team members to learn best practices in maintenance, utilities, and safety compliance.

Essential Skills

  • Demonstrated mechanical ability and strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Basic knowledge of pumps and their operation.
  • Ability to perform preventative maintenance tasks on mechanical equipment.
  • Understanding of low-voltage electrical systems, including 24V circuits.
  • Familiarity with electrical safety precautions and safe work practices.
  • Ability to read or learn to read mechanical schematics.
  • Comfort working with mechanical components such as gearboxes and bearings.
  • Mechanically inclined with a willingness to learn in a hands-on environment.
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures and maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Commitment to following safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience or training in pneumatics is beneficial.
  • Exposure to or experience with welding is a plus.
  • Previous experience with pumps or wastewater systems is an advantage.
  • Prior preventive maintenance (PM) experience is helpful.
  • Ability to assist with chemical handling and dosing under supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail when monitoring gauges, meters, and control panels.
  • Willingness to work weekend shifts and overtime when needed.
  • Ability to work effectively in an automotive manufacturing setting.

Work Environment

You work in an automotive manufacturing environment that includes wastewater treatment and utility areas, with tools and equipment provided for your daily tasks. The role involves working around pumps, motors, tanks, piping, and related mechanical and electrical systems. The position follows a weekend shift schedule (Friday–Saturday–Sunday) with 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m. shifts, where you work 36 hours but are paid for 40. You can expect opportunities for overtime. Safety standards are a priority, including adherence to OSHA, EPA, and local regulations. An annual fit test is required, and you must be clean shaven for proper use of safety equipment. The environment emphasizes safe chemical handling, good housekeeping practices, and consistent use of personal protective equipment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $52000.00 - $60320.00/yr.
