This classification is primarily responsible for providing skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair duties on and around County owned buildings and grounds. Provides maintenance and repair services for a healthy and safe working environment for other County staff and the public. Job duties include basic mechanical and electrical repairs, preventative maintenance on heating, cooling and ventilation (HVAC) systems, completing assigned work orders and requests for service, custodial cleaning of public restrooms and other public spaces, landscape maintenance, motor pool vehicles, and equipment repairs
  • Perform basic repair and maintenance in and around County owned facilities and grounds.
  • Perform basic maintenance and repair services on irrigation systems.
  • Perform basic maintenance, including trash removal and custodial services at County owned properties.
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks consisting of plumbing, electrical, and carpentry in and around County owned buildings.
  • Participates in projects consisting of alteration, maintenance and repair of facilities, grounds and motor pool vehicles.
  • Pickup and haul trash from receptacles in and around county buildings including items classified as hazardous waste.
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks on County owned tools and equipment and leased vehicles.
  • Assists in the assessment of immediate needs and makes recommendations on necessary repairs.
  • Distributes supplies for daily operation of County owned buildings; documenting and maintaining inventories.
  • May be called in during non-regular working hours to remedy emergency situations related to County owned buildings and parks.
  • Assists Maintenance III and IV with the planning and scheduling of all motor pool vehicles maintenance and repairs.
    • May be required to perform minor motor pool repairs such as headlights, windshield wiper blades, fluids.
  • Regular, reliable and punctual attendance.
Two (2) years of experience in facilities and grounds maintenance, construction, landscaping, or motor pool management, including working with chemicals and hazardous waste.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Washington State Driver's License with good driving record.
First Aid and CPR training/certificate within 6 months of hire.
Required to pass a Mason County Sheriff’s Office background screening

This position is required to follow chapter 13 of the Mason County Personnel Policy. If offered the position you must provide a Abstract Driving Record from the WA State DOL.

JOB COMPLEXITY:This classification requires the incumbent to work independently and use good judgment in performing work tasks. Incumbents work in recurring work situations with occasional variations from the norm and normally operate from established policies and procedures. Work is regularly checked by a supervisor or maintenance worker of higher classification.


INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:Incumbents in this classification communicate with other employees while performing their responsibilities and may communicate with the public or other county departments to provide or obtain information.
