Our challenge


We are seeking an experienced AS/400 / Midrange Developer with strong expertise in RPG400, RPG III, COBOL, or SYNON to support and enhance high-volume, business-critical applications running on legacy platforms such as AS/400 (IBM i), DEC VAX, and HP3000.

This role involves full lifecycle development, maintenance, and modernization of applications supporting large-scale batch and online transaction processing systems.


Key Responsibilities


  • Design, develop, and maintain applications on AS/400 (IBM i) and midrange platforms
  • Work with RPG400 / RPG III / COBOL / SYNON to build and enhance business applications
  • Support full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) – analysis, design, development, testing, and deployment
  • Maintain and enhance existing legacy systems to meet evolving business needs
  • Develop and support high-volume batch processing and online transaction systems
  • Troubleshoot production issues and ensure system stability and performance
  • Collaborate with business users to gather requirements and translate into technical solutions
  • Perform code reviews, testing, and documentation
  • Ensure data integrity, system reliability, and efficient processing


Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong hands-on experience with:
  • RPG400 / RPG III / RPGLE
  • COBOL programming
  • SYNON (CA 2E)
  • Experience working in AS/400 (IBM i) environment
  • Exposure to midrange platforms (DEC VAX / HP3000) is a plus
  • Strong understanding of batch processing and online transaction systems
  • Experience with legacy system support and modernization
  • Knowledge of DB2 / relational databases on AS/400
  • Familiarity with SDLC methodologies


Nice-to-have

  • Experience in Banking / Financial Services / Insurance domains
  • Exposure to modernization tools or migration projects (AS/400 → Cloud / Java / .NET)
  • Knowledge of CL programming, JCL, or job scheduling tools
  • Experience with integration APIs or middleware
