Job Title: Machine Saw Operator
Job Description

This role focuses on accurately cutting metal materials to customer specifications while maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient work area. You will operate saws and material handling equipment, interpret work orders and blueprints, and perform basic inventory control for each job. The position requires strong attention to detail, consistent adherence to safety procedures, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced warehouse and production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Apply metal to customer orders and process material according to work order specifications.
  • Pull, inspect, and verify product before processing to ensure it matches order requirements.
  • Properly and safely set up saws and related equipment to run material according to setup notes and written work instructions.
  • Operate saws and other machines to cut materials to specified dimensions and tolerances.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and setup notes to run saws to the required specifications.
  • Process setup notes according to work order specifications and document required information accurately.
  • Verify that product meets setup note specifications by following the sampling plan and recording measurements.
  • Operate cranes, forklifts, and other material handling equipment to move materials safely and efficiently.
  • Perform inventory control on each work order, including tracking material usage and scrap using basic math skills.
  • Properly enter and delete material identification tags in accordance with written instructions.
  • Operate weighing scales correctly and record inspection measurements as required.
  • Identify, record, and segregate scrap and any non-conforming material in line with quality procedures.
  • Perform equipment preventive maintenance to keep machines in safe and reliable operating condition.
  • Maintain issued measurement equipment in proper working condition and use it accurately.
  • Assist in packaging material according to written work instructions and work orders.
  • Maintain the processing area in a clean, safe, and orderly manner, including general clean-up tasks.
  • Communicate with the appropriate sales representative or internal contacts regarding order changes or clarifications.
  • Provide feedback to supervision regarding machine efficiency, product quality, and process improvements.
  • Complete all job responsibilities in a manner that does not put yourself or others in an unsafe situation, consistently following safety guidelines.
  • Assist in activities related to lean initiatives and quality improvement efforts.
  • Train other team members in saw operation and related tasks when required.
  • Accurately complete all required data entry and documentation associated with work orders and quality checks.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 2+ years of saw operation experience, preferably in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
  • Experience working with metals such as sheet metal and aluminum.
  • At least 3+ years of warehouse experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and apply them to saw setup and cutting operations.
  • Proficiency in reading a ruler and using hand-held measuring tools to verify dimensions.
  • Ability to perform basic math skills for inventory control, measurements, and material calculations.
  • Ability to read and write to follow work instructions, complete documentation, and communicate effectively.
  • Capability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds safely and repeatedly as needed.
  • Certification or eligibility for certification in material handling, including operation of cranes and forklifts.
  • Competence in operating saws and other industrial machinery in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer literacy for data entry and work order processing.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous warehouse experience, especially in the metals industry.
  • Previous forklift operation experience in a production or warehouse setting.
  • Experience with various industrial machines such as bandsaws, waterjet, drill press, CNC, or similar equipment.
  • Familiarity with inventory control processes in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
  • Comfort working with sampling plans and recording inspection measurements.
  • Willingness to participate in lean and quality improvement activities.
  • Ability to train others in machine operation and procedures when needed.

Work Environment

This position is based in a warehouse and production environment focused on metals processing. You will work around industrial saws, cranes, forklifts, and other material handling equipment, handling sheet metal, aluminum, and similar materials. The pace is fast, driven by customer orders that require accurate and timely cutting to specification. The work area emphasizes cleanliness and organization, with expectations to maintain a safe, orderly workspace and follow established safety procedures at all times. You will regularly stand, move materials, and lift up to 40 pounds while using measurement tools, weighing scales, and computer systems to support production and inventory control.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wichita, KS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.20 - $22.20/hr.
