Department Summary:

The MITRE Legal Office provides legal expertise and services to protect MITRE’s interests and to mitigate MITRE’s risks.

This role reports to the Associate General Counsel, Chief Intellectual Property Counsel, and will provide support to the Legal Office across multiple practice areas.

The position is based in our McLean, Virginia, office.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal support across a range of practice areas including contracts, intellectual property, compliance, AI issues, and general legal counseling under guidance of senior attorneys.
  • Support patent, trademark, and copyright acquisition and enforcement and technology licensing;
  • Review, draft, and negotiate commercial and non-commercial agreements;
  • Analyze legal and regulatory issues and work with multidisciplinary teams to establish corresponding policies and decision frameworks;
  • Identify and track legal risks, support mitigation efforts, and escalate complex or high profile issues;
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support business initiatives and ensure legal compliance. Train internal stakeholders on relevant legal issues;
  • Conduct legal research and maintain awareness of relevant laws, regulations, and industry practices; and
  • Contribute to development of legal templates, policies, and training.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) and licensed to practice in Virginia, or able to get limited corporate counsel admission
  • Typically requires five years of relevant legal experience
  • Strong experience reviewing, drafting, and negotiating contracts
  • Excellent customer service skills with ability to initiate and foster collaborative relationships both internally and externally
  • Demonstrated ability to make informed decisions, manage workload, and meet deadlines
  • Willingness to learn new legal areas relevant to MITRE’s current and future work programs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of FAR and DFARS provisions.
  • Strong interest in science and technology issues.
  • At least three years’ experience at a NLJ 500 firm or similar.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to function productively in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent attention to detail.

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$101,000 - $126,500 - $152,000 Annual
