Job Title: Materials Lab Technician
Job Description
The Lab Technician supports applications development by preparing samples, performing analytical tests, recording data and observations, and summarizing experimental results. This role focuses on material analysis, process optimization, and failure analysis while maintaining high standards of quality, documentation, and repeatability in a collaborative lab environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare metal and company samples for applications development in accordance with established procedures and protocols.
- Perform analytical tests and measurements to support development and process improvement activities.
- Record experimental data, observations, and test results accurately and in a timely manner.
- Prepare clear and concise summaries of experiments, including methods, results, and conclusions.
- Perform die bonding applications using both manual and automated equipment.
- Troubleshoot basic process issues, identify potential root causes, and escalate complex problems appropriately.
- Conduct parameter optimization to improve process performance, yield, and reliability.
- Perform failure analysis on components and assemblies to support problem solving and corrective actions.
- Handle microscopic components using microscopes, tweezers, vacuum tools, and other fine instruments.
- Maintain process documentation, including work instructions, logs, and test records, to ensure traceability and compliance.
- Carry out basic troubleshooting on equipment and processes to maintain consistent operation.
- Support maintaining repeatability and yield by following standardized procedures and process controls.
- Log process data using basic computer applications and ensure data integrity.
- Follow all lab safety procedures and guidelines while working with materials, samples, and equipment.
- Collaborate with team members, communicate findings, and contribute to a supportive, cooperative work culture.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 1+ years of industry experience in a related field.
- Technical certification or degree in a related field.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: materials testing, working with metals, quality control (QC), or laboratory work.
- Hands-on experience with sample preparation and handling of various materials, including metals.
- Ability to perform die bonding applications manually and using automated tools.
- Basic troubleshooting skills for process and equipment issues.
- Proficiency with basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to log and organize process data accurately.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on process control, documentation, and maintaining quality.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment, follow instructions, and communicate clearly.
- Good time management skills to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
- Ability to stand, reach, and use fine tools, and occasionally lift small weights or handle small assemblies.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Background in chemistry, sample preparation, or working with metals.
- Experience with materials testing techniques and QC procedures.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis software such as Minitab is a plus.
- Experience handling microscopic components using microscopes, tweezers, and vacuum tools.
- Experience with process documentation and maintaining repeatability and yield.
- Strong focus on quality, process control, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to contribute positively to a supportive and collaborative team culture.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Jose, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
