POSITION SUMMARY:   

Maintain plant equipment in an available and reliable state of operation, assist with designated new installation projects, and actively seek to remedy customer issues or concerns.

This position may require the management of hazardous waste, which may include, but is not limited to, making waste determinations, profiling waste with Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facility (TSDF) requirements, labeling hazardous waste containers, container management (e.g. inspections), and release clean up or emergency response.

ESSENTIAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ELECTRICAL

  • Troubleshoot three-phase motors and circuits using an amp meter, volt meter, or megger.   
  • Troubleshoot and repair motor starters, verify motor rotation, check and replace breakers, and specify motor replacement based on RPM, HP, Frame, and Classification. 
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical devices such as switches, contactors, cables, or wiring. Have the ability or willingness to learn instrumentation (level, flow, temperature, pressure, and positioning).

PIPE FITTING/RIGGING/FABRICATION

  • Perform all phases of pipe fitting; including reading blueprints, cutting, threading, and fabricating lined pipe, and installing pipe in a complicated configuration based on drawings.
  • Use safe rigging techniques for different pieces of equipment.
  • Be able to take a basic print of a system and make modifications or fabricate new parts.

WELDING

  • Be able to demonstrate proficiency in several phases of welding, (e.g., shielded arc welding, tig welding, the ability to use a plasma cutter, and knowledge of Oxy-Acetylene cutting and welding.

PUMPS

  • Repair and replace positive displacement pumps, centrifugal pumps, and air operated diaphragm pumps.
  • Repairs may include replacement of seals, bearings, impellers, shaft, or volute. 
  • Ability to perform pump and motor alignment using standard practices or laser alignment equipment. 

BOILERS/COMPRESSORS

  • Have a high-level understanding of how boilers and compressors work and the ability to start, stop, and troubleshoot common failures. 

MACHINES/TOOLS

  • Demonstrate competency in the use and operations of shop equipment (e.g., drill press, hydraulic press, bandsaw, pipe fabrication equipment, and lifting equipment. 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of all hand tools required of a journeyman mechanic and possess the same (specialty tools are provided by Curia).

HVAC

  • Good working knowledge of HVAC system.  May require a fundamental demonstration of troubleshooting abilities in the areas of differential pressures and how this affects the efficiencies of a system.

SAFETY

  • Conduct all job assignments safely using the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), tools, and techniques. 
  • Report any hazardous situations to a supervisor, and have the courage to stop unsafe work.

TEAMWORK

  • Ability to work as part of a team, providing guidance or assistance as necessary to ensure tasks are completed timely and professionally. 
  • Act in a way that promotes good working relationships and demonstrates sound customer service (to other maintenance personnel and personnel in other departments (e.g., operations, engineering, and administration).   

Good Manufacturing Practices & Good Documentation Practices (GMP & GDP)

  • Perform all GMP related documentation in compliance with ALCOA and good documentation practices as defined by site SOP’s.
  • Strict compliance with all cGMP documents
  • SOP’s, Batch records, protocols, change controls, controlled forms, etc. 
  • Ensure all cGMP applicable training is kept current
  • Do not perform any cGMP task for which have not received appropriate training
  • Escalate any cGMP concerns to Supervisors and to Quality Department as needed
  • Perform job functions in compliance with applicable US FDA regulations and current Good Manufacturing Practices.

  • Good understanding of continuous improvement methodology and ability to apply continuous improvement to daily tasks/routines.

  • Good skills and understanding in the use of standard software applications required in the performance of work CMMS, e-mail, MS Word, MS Excel, etc.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-starter capable of working independently and establishing priorities.

The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 55 pounds. Specific vision abilities required in this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be medically fit to wear a respirator.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to work in a normal manufacturing plant environment and is regularly required to enter the production area of a typical manufacturing facility which has moving mechanical parts, and may have fumes or airborne particles, extreme heat, wet and /or humid conditions, low levels of toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate.
