Position Overview

We are seeking an Investment Accounting Manager to oversee accounting and financial reporting activities related to a diversified investment portfolio. This role combines technical accounting expertise, team leadership, and process improvement responsibilities in a highly visible environment.


The ideal candidate will bring strong investment accounting knowledge, experience working with complex investment portfolios, and a leadership style that balances mentorship with hands-on execution.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes related to investment entities
  • Review GAAP and statutory financial reporting deliverables and supporting schedules
  • Analyze investment income, gains/losses, and portfolio performance across fixed income, equity, and alternative investments
  • Partner with auditors, investment managers, financial reporting teams, and external stakeholders
  • Manage and develop a team of accounting professionals while remaining actively involved in day-to-day operations
  • Oversee general ledger activity, reconciliations, and reporting accuracy
  • Drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and workflow efficiencies
  • Support audit activities and maintain a strong internal control environment
  • Manage relationships with external vendors and investment accounting platforms
  • Assist with onboarding new asset classes, investment strategies, and systems
  • Support real estate owned (REO) accounting and related audit requirements


Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of relevant accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of GAAP accounting principles
  • Experience working with investment portfolios (fixed income, equity, and alternative investments)
  • Prior leadership, supervisory, or mentorship experience
  • Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, lookups, and financial analysis


Preferred

  • CPA designation
  • Big 4 or large regional public accounting experience
  • Insurance, annuity, or investment management industry experience
  • Statutory accounting/reporting knowledge
  • Experience with process improvement, automation, or system implementations
