General Experience Expectations: A minimum of five (5) years of IT work experience with demonstrated knowledge in architecture design, software development, database management systems, and systems integration in multi-platform environments.
Scope of Work/Job Characteristics
The Internet/Web Architect will serve as the principal line of communication for the project team. The
duties and responsibilities of this position are as follows:
Complexity:
• Leads the definition of web architectures and designs for enterprise-level projects;
• Manages multiple projects, often taking on the role of project leader or subject matter expert;
• Tackles projects and issues of medium to high complexity, demonstrating expertise across various
technical areas and business segments; and
• Provides coaching and mentorship to junior technical staff, fostering their professional growth.
Other Job Characteristics:
• Responsible for gathering business requirements and translating them into Internet or Web
architecture to achieve business objectives;
• Analyzes assigned specifications, planning, designing, and developing solutions, utilizing
appropriate Internet, Intranet, or Extranet architecture processes supporting a wide range of
content—either individually or in concert with project team members;
• Provides appropriate documentation for object design decisions, estimating assumptions, applets,
and performance metrics—as required by organization architecture process standards, or as
assigned; and
• Responsible for minimizing the issues between the client and the server applications and for the
overall set-up and design of the Internet and Web server architecture.
NOTE: Impact and complexity of this job increases if organization is utilizing Internet solutions (vs.
only Intranet), especially those with significant business impact (e.g., e-business).
Preferred Qualifications
The Department prefers the Candidates to have the following experience, skills, and/or knowledge for
this position:
• Proven experience leading the design of solutions in hybrid environments (on-premise, cloud,
Software as a Service [SaaS], and Commercial Off-the-Shelf [COTS]);
• Strong understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies;
• Extensive experience in Waterfall project management;
• Expertise in web technologies such as JavaScript (React, Angular, Vue), Hypertext Markup
Language (HTML), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), Representational State Transfer
Application Programming Interfaces (REST APIs), Node.js, .NET, and Java;
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, or Google Cloud
and their architecture patterns;
• Deep understanding of data modeling, databases, and system interoperability;
• Ability to develop scalable, secure, and maintainable web architectures across diverse
technology stacks;
• Experience creating target state architecture diagrams, transition roadmaps, and system
interface designs;
• Ability to evaluate and integrate SaaS and COTS solutions into enterprise ecosystems;
• Experience with application rationalization and technical debt reduction strategies;
• Strong ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, quality
assurance, business analysts, and product owners;
• Experience mentoring development teams and ensuring architectural consistency across
projects;
• Capable of presenting architectural decisions and trade-offs to technical and non-technical
stakeholders; and
• Strong vendor management experience, including assessing the technical fit of third-party
solutions.
