Johnson C. Smith University invites applications for a full-time Instructor of Mathematics within the Department of Computer Science, Engineering, and Mathematics. This position offers an exciting opportunity to join a collegial and student-centered academic community dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, and service.

The ideal candidate will be a high-quality teacher and advisor who brings excellent communication and interpersonal skills to the classroom and to student engagement. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of the curriculum and a clear commitment to scholarship, publishing, and research in Mathematics. The chosen math faculty members will contribute to the academic and professional development of both majors and non-majors while supporting a dynamic learning environment that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses ranging from introductory mathematics to senior-level mathematics major courses depending on departmental needs. Other responsibilities include research, professional activity and service to both the University and community. Involving students in research activities is highly desirable. The faculty member will be required to evaluate and use current technology in courses and to maintain a positive educational relationship with students and colleagues. Other duties include academic advising, curriculum development, committee service and performing other duties required to meet organizational needs.

Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Computer Science, Engineering, and Mathematics, the successful candidate will play an important role in advancing the University’s mission through impactful instruction, active participation in the University community, and a dedication to ongoing professional and scholarly growth. Candidates for the Instructor position must possess a Master’s degree or higher in a mathematics or related field with at least eighteen graduate credits in mathematics. Course development and curriculum design experience as well as evidence of a commitment to working with under-prepared students are also desirable. The ability to be credentialled to teach other STEM disciplines would be considered valuable. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to teach with technology. Effective collaboration and interpersonal skills are also desirable.



Finalists for this position are subject to a background check. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background investigation including criminal history and identity check.
