UVA Health is seeking a full-time Inpatient Psychiatrist (MD/DO) to join our Behavioral Health team at Prince William Medical Center. This role is a key part of our inpatient behavioral health service line, providing high-quality psychiatric care to a diverse patient population while supporting expanded access to mental health services across the region.

This position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative, patient-centered environment with strong administrative and clinical support.

Practice Highlights:

  • Remote coverage for Haymarket and Culpeper Medical Centers

  • Support from Behavioral Health Access Team, outpatient/IOP teams, and Emergency Department

Schedule & Call:
  • Full-time (1.0 FTE)
  • 7 on / 7 off schedule
  • Day shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM (on-site rounding)
  • Call responsibilities:
    • Approximately 5 overnight calls per month
    • Includes 1 full weekend + 3 weekday call
    • Weekend coverage required
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide inpatient psychiatric care on the Behavioral Health Inpatient (BHIP) unit
  • Manage an average daily census of 8–12 patients (on-site and remote)
  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations, treatment planning, and medication management
  • Provide consultative services within scope of practice as requested
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary care teams to ensure high-quality patient outcomes
  • Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives
  • Deliver care in accordance with all regulatory, accreditation, and clinical standards
  • Support continuity of care and patient needs during transitions
Qualifications:
  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of an accredited psychiatry residency program
  • Board certified or board eligible in Psychiatry
  • Active Virginia medical license (or eligibility)
  • Current DEA license
