Job Title: Packer / Stacker / Sorter

Job Description

The Packer / Stacker / Sorter plays a key role on the production line by packaging finished products into corrugated cases, staging and stacking pallets, and ensuring that only high-quality product moves forward to shipping. This position combines fast-paced manual packing, quality inspection, and basic material handling to meet company and customer specifications while maintaining strict food safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) standards.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), food safety requirements, and company policies at all times.
  • Visually inspect product prior to packing to identify defects, quality issues, foreign material, or any conditions that do not meet customer specifications, and discard unsatisfactory product.
  • Support packing machines and packing personnel by delivering raw materials to the production line as needed.
  • Hand stack finished cases on pallets according to customer specifications while verifying the quality of the package and corrugate, including defects, date codes, case labels, pallet labels, pallet type, and slip sheets.
  • Check metal detectors and inspect bags of chips, then hand pack them into boxes in a fast-paced environment under constant production line pressure.
  • Assemble boxes, apply stickers, and pack cases according to customer specifications while verifying bag seals, defects, date code information, pricing information, package weight, and case labels.
  • Monitor the seasoner and seasoning levels to ensure consistent application of seasoning and salt according to specifications.
  • Review and understand the production schedule to set up packing machines and meet designated production targets.
  • Oversee the quality and food safety of finished material coming from the fry room and prepare product for shipping.
  • Ensure all waste from packing rooms and sorting areas is removed as needed throughout the day and that waste containers and bins are emptied for the incoming shift.
  • Repack and rework product as necessary and handle rework product appropriately according to established procedures.
  • Accurately document and log all required production, quality, and food safety information in a timely manner.
  • Monitor equipment performance and promptly report any malfunctions or problems found during packing, stacking, or sorting inspections to maintenance and management.
  • Operate material handling equipment as trained, including but not limited to stretch wrappers, pallet jacks, forklifts, and loaders.
  • Work comfortably in a high-paced, wet, oily, and noisy environment while maintaining focus on safety and quality.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including cleaning and sanitizing equipment and the surrounding environment.
  • Clean and sanitize plant and plant equipment, including packing machines, conveyors, hoppers, kettles, ceilings, walls, and floors, following established cleaning procedures.
  • Work as part of a team, including providing lunch and break coverage for other team members as needed.
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with team members and supervisors to support smooth production flow.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor, Plant Manager, or upper management.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience with packing operations, including packing finished product into corrugated cases and stacking pallets.
  • Ability to follow and apply Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and food safety requirements consistently.
  • Proficiency in basic material handling tasks such as unloading, loading, palletizing, stacking, and moving materials safely.
  • Experience supporting or running packing machines in a production or warehouse environment.
  • Capability to perform picking, order picking, and shipping and receiving tasks accurately.
  • Ability to use pallet jacks and other basic material handling equipment safely.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment under constant production line pressure while maintaining quality standards.
  • Attention to detail for inspecting product quality, packaging integrity, date codes, labels, and pricing information.
  • Ability to complete documentation and logs accurately and on time.
  • Willingness and ability to work in wet, oily, noisy, and varying temperature conditions.
  • Capacity to lift, move, and stack cases and pallets as required by the role.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills to coordinate with other team members and supervisors.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with shrink wrapping and palletizing finished product for shipment.
  • Familiarity with operating forklifts, stretch wrappers, loaders, and other powered material handling equipment (with appropriate training and authorization).
  • Experience using RF scanners for inventory, picking, or shipping and receiving tasks.
  • Experience in inventory handling and basic warehouse operations.
  • Prior experience in packing, stacking, and working with pallets in a food manufacturing or similar production environment.
  • Understanding of quality control practices in a food production setting, including metal detector checks and foreign material inspection.
  • Ability to perform cleaning and sanitation tasks using approved chemicals and procedures.
  • Comfort working near moving parts and in areas with elevated ambient noise levels while following all safety procedures.

Work Environment

This role is based in a production facility with frequent temperature changes and occasional exposure to temperatures above 100°F or below 32°F, depending on the season. The ambient noise level is loud enough to require shouting on a continuous basis, and work takes place in close proximity to moving parts. There is occasional work with chemicals as part of cleaning and sanitation tasks and rare exposure to open electric current when working near equipment, following safety protocols. The environment can be wet, oily, and fast-paced, with continuous production line activity. Work is primarily indoors, with outside work required only rarely. You will regularly use production equipment, conveyors, packing machines, and material handling tools such as pallet jacks, stretch wrappers, forklifts, and loaders as trained. The role requires adherence to all safety and food safety procedures, including appropriate use of personal protective equipment and compliance with facility hygiene and cleanliness standards.

This is a Contract position based out of Womelsdorf, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $16.75 - $16.75/hr.
