(A-E Steps):
Health Educator I:
$26.90 - $32.69 Hourly/$2,152.00 - $2,615.20 BiweeklyHealth Educator II:
$29.69 - $36.09 Hourly/$2,375.20 - $2,887.20 Biweekly
Bilingual Incentive!Bilingual Incentive Pay is 7.5% above the Health Educator I or Health Educator II base salary.
About the Position:
Under general supervision, promotes community awareness of health and wellness issues; plans, organizes, and conducts health education programs; prepares and presents health education materials, provides outreach services for at risk populations, conducts education forums on priority health issues; provides case management services to clients and assists clients in accessing community services.
  • Plans, organizes, conducts, and evaluates community outreach programs, workshops, and conferences to promote health education, risk reduction, and healthy behaviors.
  • Determines target populations and identifies specific educational needs by conducting statistical, demographic and socio-cultural surveys through the accessing and interpretation of both primary and secondary data.
  • Utilizes standards of practice for planning programs including the development of logic models.
  • Bilingual Candidates: Translate, interpret and otherwise communicate with members of the Spanish speaking community.

Health Educator I | Health Educator IIAny combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Health Educator I/II:
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in a health related field
  • One (1) year of experience providing health education in a community, or health/behavioral health setting
  • Possession of a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification is highly desirable.
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Health Educator II:
In addition to the above:
  • A Master’s degree in Public Health or possession of Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification
  • Two (2) years of experience providing health education in a community, or health/behavioral health setting

License and Special Requirements:
  • Requires a valid California driver’s license.
  • Bilingual Candidates:
    • Must pass a Merit Systems Services written and/or oral bilingual proficiency test (or other appropriate test selected by the County) to qualify.

The department is recruiting for multiple vacancies.

In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for a Health Educator I or Health Educator II, as well as subsequent vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list.

Testing Dates: April 29, 2026 - May 1, 2026. Testing will be provided via email.
Tentative Interview Dates:
1st-Tuesday, May 12, 2026 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.
2nd-
Thursday, May 21, 2026 from 11:00am to 12:00pm.*Only the most qualified applicants will be invited to interview.
New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning step of the salary range. Candidates who exceed entry level qualifications may be considered, with approval from the Board of Supervisors, for placement at other than A step.
