Job Title: General Production Worker

Job Description

The General Production Worker operates machinery and power tools to assemble pre-fabricated and pre-hung doors in a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environment. This role involves reading work orders, accurately measuring and installing parts, and assisting with surface preparation before finishing. The position is ideal for individuals who are reliable, eager to learn, and comfortable working with hand and power tools in a busy wood shop setting.

Responsibilities

  • Operate machinery and power tools such as mills, chop saws, joiners, nail guns, and other equipment to assemble pre-fabricated and pre-hung doors.
  • Read and interpret work orders to determine required components, hardware, and assembly steps for each door.
  • Measure materials accurately using a tape measure to ensure precise cuts, placements, and alignment of parts.
  • Select, grab, and install appropriate parts and hardware (such as hinges and other components) according to work order specifications.
  • Assist in prep and pre-finish activities, including sanding doors and preparing them for the paint booth.
  • Support the finishing process by properly prepping doors to be sprayed or coated in the paint booth.
  • Maintain a high level of attention to detail to ensure doors meet quality, accuracy, and appearance standards.
  • Work quickly and efficiently on production lines that can process 300+ doors per day, while maintaining safety and quality.
  • Lift and handle doors weighing approximately 70–100+ pounds repeatedly throughout the shift.
  • Follow instructions, take direction from supervisors, and collaborate effectively with team members on the production line.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including managing wood scraps and general shop debris.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures while working around sawdust, glue, paint, acetone, and other chemicals and coatings.
  • Contribute to overall production goals by being reliable, punctual, and willing to take on additional tasks as needed, including overtime when available.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to safely operate hand and power tools, including mills, chop saws, joiners, nail guns, and similar equipment.
  • Proficiency using a tape measure and performing accurate measurements for cutting and assembly.
  • Capability to work effectively in a very fast-paced production environment, handling 300+ doors per day on production lines.
  • Physical ability to repetitively lift and move doors weighing approximately 70–100+ pounds.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on precision, quality, and accuracy in measurements and assembly.
  • Ability to read and follow written work orders and instructions.
  • Willingness to learn new tasks, accept feedback, and take direction from supervisors and team leads.
  • Reliable work habits, including consistent attendance and a strong work ethic.
  • Comfort working around sawdust, glue, paint, acetone, and other chemicals and coatings.
  • Effective teamwork skills for working closely with others on a production line.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Past experience in construction, production, or warehouse environments is helpful but not required.
  • Experience with machine operation in a manufacturing or wood shop setting is a plus.
  • Forklift experience or certification is a plus.
  • using a variety of hand tools and power tools in a shop, construction, or assembly environment.
  • Ability to make quick, sound decisions while maintaining safety and quality standards.
  • Motivated attitude and desire to grow into roles such as lead, door shop specialist, warehouse associate, forklift operator, or machine operator.

Why Work Here?

Employees benefit from a performance-oriented environment that rewards hard work and continuous improvement with meaningful incentives and growth opportunities. Team members can earn additional income through profit sharing, KPI bonuses, and mid-year incentives, along with access to a 401(k) plan with employer match. Flexible support is offered to motivated individuals, including accommodating public transportation needs and offering overtime for those who want to increase their earnings.

Work Environment

The role is based in a wholesale distribution and door manufacturing facility that functions like a large wood shop. The environment is active and can be somewhat messy, with wood scraps and sawdust common throughout the workspace. Team members work around glue, paint, acetone, and other chemicals and coatings, following safety procedures and using appropriate equipment. The door shop includes three main production lines—basic interior doors, steel exterior doors, and custom higher-level doors—with most new hires starting on the steel or basic interior lines. You will work closely with a team of 30+ people on the production floor in a highly collaborative, line-based setup. The pace is fast, with high daily output expectations and opportunities for overtime for those who want additional hours.
